I have posted this before. No matter what company you start out with as a rookie, you have gotta pay your dues. This means taking runs that are bad or not so good.True, there are some companies that are just plain no good to drive for,but most companies expect you to prove yourself.Just the same as any other occupation. Usually if you do your job right, which means taking your dispatches and picking up the freight on time, and delivering it on time, things will lighten up pretty quick.Lets look at it realastically its a job and you gotta do your part.

G'day Irish truckdriver in response to your question it depends on whether your already in the USA if your a resident holding a green card or your actually coming from Ireland , by the way we did have a few irish men drive here you know we've got to have someone to laught at huh, no only kiddy bro , but seriouly we came over here to the USA on temperary work visas H2B there usually valid for 6 months and then you can apply for extentions of up to 8 months you can keep doing this for up to 3 years then unless you've been approved for a green card you must leave the country and reapply for a visa from outside the USA . Regarding paper work no i didn't really need much at all just a driving record it goes against you if you've had alot of tickets for speeding, red lights etc etc for insurance purposes , plus your basic knowledge of driving obviously the more years you've had driving OTR the more they'll be interested however i go a go with a Company Called LW Miller based in Logan Ut they have 4 divisions Reefer , Tanker, Phoematic, Livestock. Anyone looking for a company that i feel was pretty reasonable try them out yes you can live outside of Utah we had 1 driver that actually lived in Missouri. Just getting home time came be tough thats all. Well hope that would be of some help to ya .

    Keep on trucking

Thanks for the reply mate, yep us Irish are mainly here for entertainment purposes no doubt. I live in the US as i am married to a US girl and only have to wait 3 more weeks for work auth. I already have my driving record on the way from Ireland and have 8 years uninterrupted work history also. I actually had a Vic Roads licence until last year from a visit to Melbourne in 2005, was handy as the Irish licence is just a piece of paper.

You still driving over here? Did you drive any of the road trains back home at any time?

    Thanks for the reply

G'day Irishtrucker thanks for the reply yeah matey i'm back down under in good old OZ mate although while i was working in the USA i didn't really miss Australia with the exception of the wild life i didn't really see much over here but i love the American culture not the politics but hey who does love politics huh . so you married an American girl and will have a green card thats great that was my goal as well but i didn't really get a chance to meet anybody i was to busy on the road . We all had opportunities to apply for an employer sponsered green card but that was going to cost around $5000 not sure whether that was A$ or US$ but i thought hey you know i can get a work visa any time once you've got the experience driving over there its no problem it just depends on what the company standards are i remember ringing 1 mob out of curiousity and they were telling me how i'd have to go out with a trainer for like 6 months or something i told the recruiter i'm already driving for (LW's) on my own now so why would you want to send me out with a trainer i'd probably end up teaching him! Ah well anyways no i haven't driven any road trains however i've driven BDoubles thats kinda like a mini road train hey if you were in Melbourne you would of no doubt seen a few (bdoubles) on the highways they do have restrictions as to which roads you can take them on and hefty fines if you err. Well Bloke hope that helps you some .

    Cheers

The Australian economy has surprised everyone to date we expected to dip into recession back in the March quarter however the stats showed no negative growth 1 of the few western developed Nations to not go officially into recession that says something about the previous Government which had gotten Australia into Sulpris not owing anything however the new Labour Government has gone out spending big time and we will probably suffer for it latter down the track with higher interest rates no doubt. But yeah still lots of jobs around specially if you have any trade qualifications like Diesel fitter, electrical, Welders etc etc lots of jobs still going around the coal mines in Central Queensland which has pretty much kept the industry in Queensland going.
