And I was going to suggest the coffee cans. I've used cans a bunch of times.
Can you still buy exhaust tape??
Not likely I think it was asbestos.

I've heard this quite a bit about crawling around, checking things, tightening things, looking for problems. I've always had sort of a "yeah, yeah" attitude about it, but it's really starting to sink in. There are no shortcuts. I'm turning a new leaf here. I really hate making my problems someone else's, and I believe that all of this is my fault. There's more at play than bad luck, and I'm going to have to be more responsible all the way around.
All I can really say in my defense is that I work as much as I possibly can, rates are really tough, and if there was really a decent amount of extra money I probably would have been more careful. As it is I really have had to pick my battles and fix things when I can. There's always a list of 4 or 5 things that really need to be done soon, but something brand new will pop up that simply can't be ignored, and generally just expensive enough to make sure you worked for free for that last week and probably the next couple of days.
Between fuel, brokers, percentages, theres' only a few points left, and repairs are 100% out of that premium take-home, generally more than you make on the last couple/few loads completely. This is a really scary industry here. -
This is a very mature and competitive business. Profits are measured in a few cents per mile. It is why companies jump on things that save even 1/2 cent per mile.
luvtheroad and PharmPhail Thank this. -
Don't feel too bad rob. I'm sitting here trying to decide if I should turn this truckback in while I still have a marriage. Or at least I need a new gig somewhere. Between the $460 I'm stillfighting landstar for on that "rate change" and my ac repair last wEek I believe I sent home $1400 the last 4 weeks and with a $1020 truck note I can't have that.

The state of things does suck, but you need the best truck you can get and that payment isn't going to get any lower. I wouldn't give that back unless they steal it out from under you. Your wife is going to have to understand, I don't know what else to say. You'll have better months if you can keep going. Keep going.. that's all we have bro. -
I'd keep the truck. At least when I take care of her and treat her right,
she gives me tens of thousands of dollars instead of the other way around. :smt033Eskimo6804 Thanks this. -
Well where do I start..
lets start by saying hoppers have not had a good start with me.
first the delivery fopah, then hand loading oats groats from the silo, theres the re-capp get to Nocagdoches fine then head for freeport the next morning.. got there about 130pm . Its on port and I don't have TWIC..
wait for escort and this jerk comes out and ask if I am there to pick up from Sage 5 Foods.. I said yes sir he said no your not! I said yes sir and handed him the papers he just glared at me and says we don't load after 12pm.....I made the best of it found a little place to park for $5.. said its ok to drop trailer so I locked it up and head into town.. Went shoping, hair-cut and a sit down dinner... Get to the port back in and start loading.. Guy speaks NO english so I draw a picture of the truck and trailer with the amounts I want loaded and where... It took 6 trips to the scales to finally get full and on the last one I was over weight.. he has the gates locked up and is directing me off port... I call the office and tell them I need to dump 1600lbs where do they want it? They come back out to get me back into the hole dump the guestimated amount and back to the scales AGAIN. I now have the 50k I asked for at 530pm....I get to a cat scale and my drives are over by 1100lbs so I stop and get a snow/scoop shovel and head back to the scales to start shoveling rice flour from the front hop to the rear... finally get it right and head north. Get to Nashville and the pre-season game is letting out...aaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 hours in traffic....
I 65 south of Louisville theres 4 accidents. Motorcycle run over by a big truck, 3 big trucks crash not paying attention or listening to the radio for the wreck ahead.. at least one truck caught fire. I'd stopped ahead of it for some rest so I didn't have to sit through that... I was already beat. Get to Saint Marys OH,,,, deliver fine but missed my pick-up headed back to GA by 45 minutes.. So I get to sit at the TA off I75 near saint Marys till Tuesday morning... All toll the problems of pickup and delivery have cost me 6 days of work that I can never recover. ah..........
Good news is I increased my milage tremendously by changing my shift points from 1700 to 1500 and running the cruise at 67-68 first tank from TX to N-AL I got 7.64 second tank from there to OH I got 6.78...
