Anyone who was in any of the armed forces understands the chain of command.
What he did, was either straight out stupid, or worse, on purpose. The information he blithely allowed to be in the open allowed our adversaries to have information they should never be allowed to have......
I agree with the Acting Secretary who fired him!

I have said system on my truck, although it happens from time to time, i have begun to understand where and when it happens, all i do at those times is have my foot on the “go pedal” to bypass the sensor.
Mostly it happens when a vehicle is exiting, on curves and when I’m trying to pass. I also noticed that it needs to be adjusted every 2-3 months. So learning how to do that was a pain.PE_T Thanks this. -

The overuse and bad condition of most of the 9 carriers is already no secret. There is 5 in Norfolk and 4 on the west coast all of which need very much refit and repairs. Some of them will probably be scrapped going on 30 years war wear em right out.
To have a carrier go down at Guam and then fail to deploy another off the west coast in 3 days by order of JCOS is to fail the Nation and their requirements to have a carrier on whatever "The Big Stick" was doing before it took sick.
To wit the Pentagon as of yesterday quit talking numbers of sick etc. It is enough of a impact to halt certain missions (In Europe mainly, which I really don't agree with but prefer to shut up before I get tossed enough...)
What we were before 2020 is finished. We are going to be a different America after this is over and done with towards Winter, Possibly with digital chips or wristbands for immunity certificates like you give to children after vaccinating them for kindergarden. (I still have the original certs from childhood) but these would be the new necessary for freedom of passage to prove immunity. That would be one major change. -
Yes but what was once legal, illegal, acceptable and unacceptable might not be allowed today. The world has changed.
I’m not taking sides on the story, all I’m saying “well someone else did it so it must be ok” excuse isn’t something that should be used as an excuse.x1Heavy Thanks this. -

If you want to know what kind of CO he was, all you have to do is see the standing ovation he received when he walked off. He thought of his men before himself.Toothpick1, joshuapowell61, Just passing by and 1 other person Thank this. -
There are problems structurally within the high command when they fail to support the Captain's decisions for his ship on the high seas. But that's ok. He did what he did, knowing he would be canned. But not before the crew gets the help they require before it really got bad. Whatever the high command chooses to punish or not does not matter. Not when you see the original Twitter feed of him being cheered by the Carrier's crew as he left the boat for the last time. The Crew loved him for being a good Captain. And to me thats what is important in the end.
Now look at the other side of coin. Captain does nothing. Suddenly hes off say Malaysia in the straits with 4000 too sick to function. Suddenly you have a hell ship unable to port anywhere that is not a US Base. And in a situation where its readiness is imperiled. What do you think will happen? The High Command will fire the captain for doing nothing. So. ###### if you do and ###### if you don't Captain knew he is ###### anyway so he did what he did while he still had Command to do it with. BEFORE the ship is allowed to progress really bad.
Bosses HATE being prodded into action. THEY HATE and RESENT when the unterlink or their lower ranks put them on the spot. Especially after we the people find out about a problem. We would have found out anyway through the mothers and fathers of the sick on board. So the Bosses are forced to get off the chair and go do something. That is the American Nature of getting things done if anything is to be done. Otherwise neglect and not my problem is passed the buck.
Frankly I don't care that they punish the captain. Let them punish him. Drum him out of the service. Whatever they decree is the price of doing what he did. In the end the crew knows he went out taking care of them while he had the power to do so. He himself knew that will happen and stood up to take the music.
I for one would be first to rehire him for command if I was in charge of the military. Good People like that are hard to come by. -
The Government wants to eliminate the Acting Secretary and put someone into a actual secretary position with actual powers etc. Cuts down on the confusion.
As far as I am concerned I am finished with this topic. As are so many others. The Captain sacrificed himself to help his crew get through this before too many got sick with Covid19 and expose the carrier to attack on high seas.
