Great jobs in Texas

Myself and a couple of friends were working in the DFW area, I quit for personal reasons and moved, the other two lost their jobs with large co's. One of them got on with an independent co and brought the other over for part time work..

 

Can anyone tell me more about the agility test? I'm on the backside of fifty with a couple of creaks and such.

 

Are you talking about for say Schneider. You can go to their website and see exactly what they require. Basically doing a few deep knee bends, lift 30 to 60 lbs to waist and shoulder height a few times, crawling into back of trailer, etc. Their test should be close to what you will encounter at most companies that require test.

Do the companies that have been talked about in this thread want only company drivers? I have one truck and my own authority. I want to move to TX just for the winter. Do these companies use small, outside carriers like myself? I'll probably call around in Oct., but I'd like to see some input on this (if anybody knows).

If it matters, I don't mind parking my truck and being a company driver if the $ makes it worth it. And $15/hr with 12hr days would be worth it.

 

Do the non cdl jobs require exp?

 

I do not have a cdl and I am new to this but is it possible to get on with one of these companies without having a cdl? if so will they help you obtain one?

 

How does one obtain a cdl without having to go to school for it or getting trained by a long haul company that keeps you out for weeks at a time? Is it even possible?

 

Is there by any chance a college with minor fees associated to get cdl?

 

Check out Weatherford College. Have driving school in Mineral Wells. used to be about$3k for 160 hours. Approved by most companies. Check with WorkForce. they might get you a Gov grant to pay for it. Worst they can do is say no.
