We had 2 of these in extended cab. They honestly weren't bad except for 2 issues:

    1. Not enough room in the footwell.

    2. The steering wheel hub blocked half the dash unless you sat like a bus driver over the wheel.

They drove and rode almost as nice as our Star sleeper trucks.

I have heard people complain about the M2 variants as having a somewhat cheap (fall apart or break interior) I personally haven't been in one since 2008, is that just talk or have they improved the quality? Jack on the extended cab models isn't the bunk really small? Also if you deleted the pass seat would you have a lot better access to the bunk/floor space??

    Stan,

The SD series is more along the lines of the Columbia and Century class for quality of the interior fit and finish, not like the M2. I would think the interior is basic but sturdy.

I can't answer about access without the passenger seat but I would assume it would be reasonable without it. If the layout is the same as an M2 for the extended cab option then the "bunk" is more like laying in the back seat of a pickup.

Thx Brian, I guess that 4700 WS with 40" sleeeper I speced is probably still the best option?

This is a spot on assessment!! Lol! The gauges are pretty well blocked and I do wish it had a flat floor. The hump under the seat has absolutely nothing under it and it would be nice to be able to put the seat down on the floor with something tall on the headrack I'd be able to see. It runs pretty strong with the Detroit and 10 speed. The advantages of having an 80' quick loader and a manual transmission far outweigh any shortcomings that come from Freightliner!! Lol! We do have the passenger seat removed and it has plenty of room for my junk. Especially since I just travel from hotel to hotel!!

Yes, the 4700 is still your best option.

Stan I haven't been on here in a long time. The truck in your profile pic..is that the one you made all the sleeper mods to? It looks cool. Is the WS you spec'd mean you're moving into a stinger?

yep, I'm not sure on the exact size, but it's about like the bed in a Crackerbox Jimmy. If you laid on your back, your shoulders were pretty much to the edges of the mattress.

Hey BigBob, We initially shortened one of my 60" sleepers and that turned out good except we still didnt have enough wb/frame for the bed and stinger trailer that I needed, so then I bought this day cab knowing I would have to stretch it, both can and frame/wb but it was super low mileage and a good price, so we are using it as a prototype that was the Day cab that we had stretched, it is in Az right now getting a frame and rail stretch then over to Sun Country for a bed and stinger trailer, "Once" that gets on the road and loaded as long as it works good, then that is the direction all of our other equipment is going to, we should have already been there, but of course there is a lot to consider in a year like this! lol
