There are a LOT of ways to think about backing, talk about backing, and actually back.

There is no One Right Way. There are WRONG WAYS, and WTF ARE YOU DOING ways, which should be avoided, but ultimately it comes down to what makes sense for the driver AND what results in getting in the spot without hitting things.

I have had to learn a whole bunch of ways to talk about backing in order to teach it, but by far the easiest way to teach someone is to get the out of the truck, look at what they have. Get into the truck, do something, then get out and see what happened. If it was good, keep going. If not, why not and what will make things better? The important thing is making a connection between the angle of the truck/trailer and what IS GOING to happen. The biggest stumbling block new drivers have is thinking the steers control the trailer. The steers control the tractor, the tractor controls the trailer.

The second biggest mistake is not watching the back axle AND the tail of the trailer. The back acle is where things are pivoting but the tail is where the end of the trailer IS right now. Connecting the dots between the two will give a good indication of where things are going.

Actually the biggest mistake is not GOALing.

Yeah, well that and tarping a load at 20 below with the winds at gale force.
That part would suck for me.
But I'm kind of a sissy when it comes to real work.

Another one? As in you do already? Some things I would omit to others. Yet hand wipes through ones armpits if you cant get to a shower will resolve much

Monday I delivered some car parts to a fellow driver who pulls a hopper bottom. He said he was taking the day off because it was too windy to mess with that tarp.

    I haven't been home.
425cat600 did. He said they're good.

I'm in Phoenix but I have a 2200 appointment, and because of HOS I'm sitting down here near the receiver, gonna basically idle into his lot.

When I get home tomorrow, one of the first orders of business is a large skillet of Dave.
