In normal road conditions, scania 112 of my father, over mountains,
46t total weight loaded and back empty 16t total distance 400km, 40L on 100km.
Mb, 45t loaded, 15t empty with this engine 50L.
But if you force both to max, difference become much larger. Plus scania went better of course.

This engine was mainly designed for construction, it is very inert and steady, dont change rpm fast, full torque available almost trough all rpm range, dont have to wait till it start to pull. Since it is 10cil, it has big overlap angle and thereby has continuous pulling power, means less tire hop and unbeatable traction, no other engine offer such characteristics for starting and traction. they are geared for 30mph at 1700rpm

    imagine doing this for 30-40years
i carefully watched those videos, they disengage diff and crosslocks under full power while going uphill,
engage them while on gas pedal too. today trucks will not allow this but you have to wait.

today there is no substitution for it in any brand, probably why they keep them running, new trucks are inline, no torque from idle, they are all nervous, no such wide range (2300rpm), no 7.8 diff ratio available (MB had 8.85 before, now max 6.00, in some models they have 6.824, maybe this could be special order).
syncro transmission can be shifted that fast, AMT will go crazy here

Cat sdp and daf105paccar Thank this.
