You could use a pee bottle instead of the side of the building. ?
If your rest areas are closed during certain hours, then don't run during those hours if you really require them.
Shippers/Receivers don't always have bathrooms for us. Some never did, and some never will.

I guess if you are in a day cab you could not cook in the truck.
But if that is the case then couldn't you bring food from home?
If you are OTR in a sleeper there is no reason not to cook in the truck. I was doing it for years before I had a decent inverter with just a couple toaster ovens and a 12V cooler.

 

If you get too nervous you could always ask your company to furlough you.
Then you could be home with your unemployment check, plus that extra $600 per week as a bonus.

Again, unemployment + $600 is probably more than I make out here. *sigh*

3 locations today. 2 stop delivery, and a pickup.

1st drop let me use the bathroom.
2nd stop was like "well,,, we're not supposed to but go ahead."
Pickup? Well I was too busy to go. The clock was running out.

I found a Chipotle for dinner doing walk in/take out. I tried calling my order in but it kept referring me to an app and I couldn't get a person. So I just drove up to the place. It's in a small shopping center with a few dock served retailers, so I gambled I might be able to take a 10 tucked in the back.
Chipotle let me in, I wore a mask but the employee's didn't. No discount, no bathroom.
If the cops come and kick me out there's an onramp about a mile away I can sneak over to. But I've only got 4 hours left before I can run again. Plenty of thirsty shrubbery along the back of the property.

 

My own view is that things will get bad soon.

Make sure you have a means to protect yourself and your property. Whether that be in the truck or at home.

 

Some people will go back to work.

Others, will soon be out of work.

Airlines plan on laying off 100,000 soon.

Construction will have to crash soon. (Homes)

Automotive.

Food.

Oil.

That's just for starters.

 

The reality, these rest areas that are closed, these customers not letting us in, when they used to, they are helping to spread germs, and not just Covid, but also hepatitis and others, not to mention, when we are handing paperwork back and forth through a slit, how do you know their sanitary condition? How have they been doing things? When you use that pee bottle, you are getting it on you, you are getting it inside the cab of your truck. Germs spread, isn't that what they keep telling us? That we must do more to control the spread of germs? Think about the guys who are using a trash bag and 5 gal. bucket in the truck to take a dump, imagine the germs they are spreading, and then tossing that bag in a trash can, yep, let's spread even more germs.

These rest areas that are closed, there are no other facilities open, and not all of us have the option of saying "I'm only going to run these hours, and not these hours", I and most drivers don't get to make that choice. I'm seeing grain haulers at these customers that are extremely pissed, they are in the same position as the rest of us. One farmer that I encountered the other day, he uses a colostomy bag, it has to be emptied, should he empty it to a pee bottle? Or just pull over and dump it any place? Ever dumped a colostomy bag? What about drivers with medical condition that they need to use a rest room more frequently? Use my own example, I'm missing part of a kidney, contrary to what Dr's will tell you, it does affect when and how frequently you have to go. My surgeon said no, I told him I go more frequently, he's done dozens of tests, nothing else wrong with me, when I have to go, I have to go.

I do bring my meals with me, I'm regional, I go home at the end of my shift, but this also is not a option for all drivers. I've got a buddy that does regional for a lumber company, drives a nice Pete sleeper, supposed to come home every night, last week, on his way to the customer, 3.5 hr drive, he had a blow out, limped it to a tire shop, that ordeal wasted 2 hours. By the time he got to the customer, got unloaded, and headed back to Denver, he ran out of hours in Sterling, Colo.. His only option for food, order pizza, one truckstop closed at 10 pm, the other that used to be open 24/7 is closed for remodel. Then, that still leaves him without a place to use a restroom, as they are closed 7 to 7.

Craftworks Brewing, parent company of 4 different restaurant chains, already in BK protection, abruptly closed 3 weeks ago, 18,000.
The oil companies, combination of Covid and oil prices, those layoffs have already started. Haliburton all but closed their operations in Grand Junction last fall, 187 jobs, a few went to Texas, the rest are gone. Liberty Oilfield Service laid off 181 3 weeks ago, as oil is tanking, the other layoffs are hitting, just heard on the news, it could be 200,000 nationwide or more.
Colorado's unemployment went from 2.5% to 6.5%, they said a bit ago on the news, 22 million confirmed, another 5 to 7 million unemployment expected.
Estimates are 2.5 to 3 million bankruptcies, and that doesn't include all the people who can't be helped.
All these programs being put out, there's a few million that will fall through the cracks and get nothing. I know Uber and Lyft drivers who have full-time jobs, and then also do that full-time as supplemental income, despite these new programs to help them, good luck, the majority will not qualify. I know at least three dozen who have already tried and been kicked out of the system.
