I never shifted one either. I suppose the old adage rings true, "if you can't find 'em, grind 'em",,

There are several YouTube videos on shifting the 18 speed.

I was just watching some myself. I was thinking about hiring on with a company that has them, and never drove one myself either.

If youre used to a 10 speed i recommend concentrating hard on NOT putting it in high range and throwing it into where 6th gear would normally be. I didnt know i was going to take a road test. I thought i was just going to give him my info and discuss a schedule and if his insurance would accept me THEN i would come back for a road test. I was caught totally off guard. Props to you for being prepared and doing some research first!

Once you get used to the versatility of an 18 you'll never want to run anything else. Up here in Western Canada the vast majority of trucks are 18s, followed by 13's.

It was nice once i realized what the thumb shifter actually did and felt the difference, i can see why especially milk haulers use them....would make for a way smoother ride than a 10 speed when half loaded.

Yeah lol! I will try not to treat it like a 10 speed if I actually do go!

Having jumped head first into so many bad decisions in life so far, I'm finally at my age realizing to research like crazy before I do anything important.

"The sad part, is all the trucks are 18 speed Pete's",,,oh, you poor thing. Back in my day, it was a cabover Transtar or an R model Mack. I'm retired dear, these days I drive a '77 GMC pickup or a dual sport motorcycle. I do drive my neighbor nuts, however. Truck on!!
