While I would think the same thing if I WERE a company driver, I must respectfully say that those drivers must not know much about preventive maintenance. As for myself, I take at least one hour every two to four days as part of my pre trip inspection and go over the truck and trailer with a fine tooth comb. I don't intend on being stuck on the side of the road like that and if I do, it will be for something major such as a blowout or either the transmission or engine blowing up. Anything else is no excuse for being on the side of the road.

And one other thing. While I understand that us truck drivers are a peculiar bunch, there is no need to be judgemental towards each other. We all go through the same crap. And to be honest, you kinda sound like a lot of people from back home that talk the very same way. How would you like it if someone said similar things to you? Granted you were probably just trying to get a rise outta me and you did. I just ain't gonna let you push it too far.

I'm not being judgmental towards anyone. I'm stating what I saw and when I saw it. And what I thought at the time. You do you. I do me. We're a happy family.

In the year I leased from them, I had the airline off the compressor get a hole rubbed in it (made it to a mile from a shop before getting stuck), a coolant leak for the def system, a busted air dryer, and a tensioner pulley fail causing the serpentine belt to shred and rip open a 3" radiator hose and take off a few sensors.

Junk comes in all forms though. Year and a half leasing at TransAm and the truck was in the shop for 7 warrenty repairs, a few nonwarrenty repairs, and I think the turbo was failing when the warrenty expired so I ended the lease.

How is 850 before taxes good money for a lease op? I'm not trying to be judgemental bud, but I would never even consider that. I'm a company driver andI have literally, since day one, never made less than 850 before taxes.

In these uncertain times (as the commercials always say) I would start looking for a company job. You'll make more money... A lot more if you're good. And you've got an exponentially lower chance of bankrupting yourself.

What is your plan when that truck needs a 30k motor job? Loses a rear end 100 miles from a shop? Hell even just needing a steer tire unexpectedly? Can you float an expense like that without going bankrupt? If it's under warranty that helps but can you afford to still make payments and love I'd it takes the stealership 2 weeks to get it done?

I don't wish the worst on anybody, and I'm not against leasing a truck, but it sounds like you're setting yourself up for failure and have convinced yourself that anybody saying otherwise is just trying to get a ride out of you when they want to help.

Thank you for your concern. Over the past four weeks, I have averaged around 3200 miles a week. And while it does vary, I have averaged about 1000 dollars a week in fuel max. Due to running an average of 8.0 mpg even on 40000lb loads. I'm getting smarter about things.

In regards to your comment about the pay, let me put it like this, if you were coming from an area in which you would be lucky if you could get a 25 to 30 hour a week job at minimum wage with no benefits and a weekly paycheck of no more than 275 a week, would you still be complaining?
