I thought your post the other day about having some new tools and opening yourself to any size broker will be a huge plus this year when things get back going. You may find out your rate convincing skills improve.
Edit: Assuming a 2500 mile week. What rate per mile would you need to average to achieve your goal? I’m just genuinely curious. I like looking at things different ways.

A lot of our stuff is regular moves. Like I know this week the North Bergan to Williamson NY is gonna be 2 loads with 1 being empties going back to North Bergan.
We try like hell getting a load coming back near the house sometimes we get really lucky like this one coming back to Binghamton and other times it just doesn't jive and we bounce back empty. Going to jersey we run it so were empty 8-9am and grab a reload back. If we get really lucky like we did friday the load delivers the same day and not even out of route on the way back.
We don't do any of that automated bidding crap. I think that's just overall hurting everything. And hey I don't consider myself a good negotiator either. More of a "hey can you get me close to this # if not I can't do it"Dino soar, JonJon78, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
That's not the point. I was rarely in the position of commanding rates. I always say, it is Market that tells you what you run for, not the opposite. As you can see, in this crisis, I had to run 3800 miles and it took me 8 days to net $3200. Not that I am happy about it but I don't mind going on a trip like that knowing that no money is coming in. Now I can stay home for another week or two...wallowing in sloth. Then I'll go again, I hate to dig in to my savings.
It only shows, why so many chose to run...maybe they have more bills to pay or they don't want their equipment repossessed. They may think....just one more week, maybe two or three and it'll get better...but I need this 1 dol per mile now...just one week at the time.
The wear and tear is no joke but while the money is so tight, it is too abstract to account for. As long as the engine is sounding good and there is enough rubber on wheels...keep on trucking. Maybe by the time something happens, things will get better.
I guess the only rates stopping them would be those that are less than fuel costs.Last edited: May 3, 2020

"Chicago White Volvos" are not about cheap freight but rather their work ethics and they way they present themselves. It is not even about a dress code but they way they behave socially. In that regard, you are miles closer to a White Volvo stereotype than me.
You are insulting people left and right on this forum, sounding like you can $..it higher than can see. And I mean, people born in this country, senior citizens and people of accomplishments.
How about a little dose of humility and knowing your place in a row?BoostedTeg and mladen86 Thank this. -
You are the ones opposing the freight market regulations and I am the part of your free market.
Maybe you should try to come up with regulations to ban carriers like me...hauling too cheap to your liking? But that would be not much different from regulating broker's cut, would it?
Can't have both ways...free market, no regulations is your carrot but I am your stick.
Don't be mad!!!!! Think about it for a second...
I ain't cheating boys... just working hard, as always, American way. Nothing wrong about working hard in America, ain't it? In my account better than getting unemployment ... money wise and by conviction too.
My message to you is that the last week, I played your game fair and square. I am still standing tall, quite comfortable about my situation too and 1 dol per mile won't effect me for months to come...Fuel is cheap (1.29 in Denver, CO ... loved it), Engine sounds good and Tires have thick rubber. What else do I need?
I can defer my trailer payments and .... my cargo/liability is affordable. I won't...I can continue to pay them off.
The hell with all that...I'll take that PPP too. Now, I am all set!
Heck...even if the cheap Chicago White Volvo breaks beyond hope...so what?
Maybe I'll pay Arrow Truck Sales a visit next week...nice Pros Stars for $40K and under 300K miles / Cummins and 13 Eaton in their lot....
gimme, gimme enough miles, I'll crunch them for you...
I remember 16 months ago, 2 dol per mile was cheap too. "Don't be that 2 dol per mile guy", remember?
OK. Enough of it. It is 3:18 am here. I was disturbed by watching that Waco series on Neflix, could not sleep after, then I came here...but now it is time to catch some sleep.
Good night!Last edited: May 4, 2020

I'd say the only regulars on this thread who've truly parked their truck(s) is one guy who decided in April it was better for him to draw unemployment with the $600 a week federal kicker and to wait it out for awhile.
I only did 10k in revenue in April, but thankfully, I did average over $2.00 a mile. We'll see what the month of May brings. So far it ain't looking to pretty though LOLLast edited: May 4, 2020
