You made that classic mistake. We all make it early on. I know I used to make it. Some of us never learn and keep on making that mistake. The mistake is "I found my company in the help-wanteds of a newspaper".

Is there any surprise you're hating life now? Been there, done that, brother. Never again, though. Today I'd look in the Salt Lake Tribune help-wanteds for the companies I wouldn't want to work for. Go get a copy of the SLT or that other mormon puppet pulp "The Deseret News" and you'll see what I mean. After memorizing which companies you see advertised, get a copy of the local Salt Lake phone book and check out how many trucking companies are listed. Most of these companies are good, meaning they don't advertise. They don't advertise because they don't have to advertise. Drivers don't quit 'em in droves like they quit companies such as C.R. England.

England isn't the only rotten company in SLC you need to know about. Get the paper for a few days straight and check the help-wanteds each of those days yourself. You'll see what I'm talking about real quick.

Sounds like you are an usafe driver. I don't mean that in a bad way either.
Just because you were told to drive fast, you didn't have to.
Did you read the FIRST module book?
It states that you are more than welcome to call your TC if you feel used/unsafe.

I know this personally because I am a CRE driver.

I learned quickly to hold to a quote by Martin Luther King Jr.
"A man can only ride your back if you're bent over."

    I quit bending.

    venne Thanks this.

oK wHEN i SAW DA WORDS cr ENGLAND i ALMOST PUNCHED MY SCREEN.

Heres my story about them. I went to their school in spartanburg sc back in june(the school is closed now), first off they sent me all the way to salt lake city just to take my cdl road test with some lame excuse about georgia(where i live) being full. Ok so I got my cdl and the stat of Utah gives you temporary licenses, not hard cards at first.
I went on my training for 3 weeks (it was hell my trainer was a [female dog]) and did my cat training, heres where it gets ugly
FIRST they got me home 2 days before my temporary license expired
SECOND they didnt inform me that georgia doesnt transfer temp. licenses causing me to lose my cdl and have to start from scratch. When I called them they asked me if I knew anybody who lived in Utah of all places whose address I cud use to get my permanenet utah cdl, of course I didnt. then the waiting list in ga for da skills test would of had me waitin 2 months to take it, i waited the 2 months and when it came time to take the test CR england didnt come through with providing the truck for me to test in and then told me if Im not on a truck for 30 days the system automatically terminates me. So basically I paid $3000 to go right back to where i started:no cdl and unemployed.
I ended up havign to go BACK through another school and owing another tuiton and am currently driving for CRST (dont get me started on them)

FYI. I got a lawyer and am currently in court trying to get that 3000 dollar school fee lifted from me because of what they did

I can add your story to all those I've heard around Utah about CRE. Believe me, what you see on this website is the tip of the "got reamed by CRE" iceberg. You got out of there easy, believe it or not. I've heard stories from guys who've driven for them for weeks and never made a dime. One story on the web tells about a lease-operator who drove over 25,000 miles and had ZERO to show for his grand effort.

I'm wondering. Could you have used CRE's terminal address as your Utah address? Just an idea. When I moved to Utah from Virginia back in 1996, I used my company's address as my temporary base address. That company had driver mailboxes, and I was even encouraged to do that by the terminal's safety head. I never had any problems. Maybe no one ever checked, though.

You should call up your state's attorney general's office and explain what happened. CRE's insiders screwed up, and you should be able to get that 3K back. That office will help you either directly or steer you toward some consumer protection office or your local labor board. Don't compromise, either. CRE may try to cut you a lame offer (probably 1500). Don't take it. Get it ALL back.

I once had to take a Salt Lake trucking company before the labor board in Salt Lake. The company had made an illegal deduction from my pay. Before going to the hearing, they treated me as though we were best buddies and tried to cut a deal. I refused, and they then started their mind-game intimidation tactics to get me to forget about it. I didn't back down, and I got 100% of the money I was owed.

Let us know what happens. I'd love to see those tightwad mormons at CRE be forced to cough up that 3K.

    Good luck.

Sure did read, and completed all my books, guess what, they don't mean nothing with your DM thinks it only takes 8 hours to cross the US. I'm NOT a "unsafe driver" but I've been training UNDER unsafe drivers. And for the record, my TC never once has asked anything about my trainer, or how I am doing out on the road. :smt046

The TC's don't care, the DM don't care, NOBODY CARES. And since you drive for England, I'll let you in on something, don't stay in the main yard, two people died last month in the main building from sleeping in that 10 man to a room junk-pit they call home.

And over 80 drivers quit on Monday FYI.:notworthy:

Yeah, I'm in SLC right now, and it's complete chaos.:laughing1:

Let's all hook up. Maybe we can head over to Sapp's and have dinner. We could even get a copy of the Salt Lake Tribune and check out the help wanted ads and see which companies suck in Salt Lake today. I could prove my point that nothing ever changes in Salt Lake when it comes to certain trucking companies, save for the drivers' faces at their standing-room-only orientations.

    Panda,
    I am in truck 92537.
i don't stay in the dorms.

CRE really pushed my buttons during training. Since then they have been much more accomodating.

You need to let safety know of the problem you had. Please do.

I'm not a lease op, but I'm not making any money right now. I'm not kidding when I say people at Burger King make more then me, and they are home each night. Training with CRE sucks. I'd much rather be running with Swift right now.Heck the guy I'm running with right now wants out of his lease beacuse it costs too much to lease from CRE.
