I would appreciate some feedback to this puzzling question.

Don't these companies that are on the poll on this thread(as being the worst of them all) care one inkling about their reputations? These companies are constantly criticized on this site & out on the road for being the worst. If I were C.L.Werner, or the CEO of Swift, Prime,Inc., etc., I would seriously change the way my company is run, yet these owners change nothing. Why is that?

yea, that's what I think also, Mr.J, its a real shame when people & corporations put the almighty $ before their reputations. Doesn't character mean ANYTHING anymore?

  5. apparently not its i think its why people are so rude anymore its not just in trucking but in everything

These rotten companies don't have to change anything. Drivers willing to go to work for these outfits are a dime a dozen, meaning they're pretty easy to find. Some don't know what they're getting into, but most are desperate types who'll settle for anything.

as long as there are lines of drivers who are willing to drive for these companys none of them are ever going to change.as long as drivers are willing to settle for less thats all we are going to get.

I thought there was a driver shortage. If so, why do these drivers have to settle for these companies? Because their records are so bad?:smt020

The so-called "driver shortage" is a ruse. It's nothing but a smoke and lights show. It's a lie companies use to get some sort of government relief, probably tax-related.

Companies always whine to their drivers about how low their profit margins are. Well, empty cleaned-out large cars will eat into those profits and may cause companies to run in the red if their turnover gets high enough. It might even cause them to go out of business. This is because a truck's fixed costs must be covered whether it is used to deliver freight or is just sitting on a lot waiting on its next driver. Maybe, just maybe, companies get tax breaks on those cleaned-out trucks that sit around for days and even weeks. I'll even go as far as to hypothesize that those tax breaks may be greater than the profits those trucks earn while running on the road, assuming the companies are telling the truth and their profit margins ARE razor thin.

Do you see what could be happening? Companies may have a stake in seeing at least some of their trucks are empty cleaned-outs. With those empties sitting on lots, they can then whine and ##### to the government about a supposed "driver shortage" and get that welfare from Uncle Sam. Yeah, some companies have gotten smart and apparently are now milking the system. There's really no other rational explanation for this "problem" that shouldn't be a problem.

It isn't hard to solve turnover problems at these oufits. Just treat people well and they will stay around. Some companies, as you know, choose to ignore this reasonable advice and have revolving doors at their terminals. You've seen it plenty-- a group of new drivers goes into orientation at a big company's terminal while at the same time a group of fed-up drivers cleans out trucks at that same terminal.

So. I will posit that at least some companies treat some of their drivers badly ON PURPOSE so those drivers will quit, meaning they don't have to pay those drivers' unemployment compensation, and those companies can then moan about a driver shortage (that the companies artificially create), point to all their empty cleaned outs (that the companies caused to be cleaned-outs on purpose), and get their welfare relief from Washington.

I read a post somewhere about how a big company like J.B. Hunt "can't be allowed to fail". I agree with this post. What the poster is saying is that the government will hold J.B.'s hand when the going gets tough. The only problem is J.B. knows this and may make its "going" appear much tougher than it really is using deceptive tricks to gain sympathy and tax relief.

Using smoke and lights, along with some lies, may get you a lot of help from the government if you're a trucking company. Maybe its time to let the Speaker of the House know all about this gravy train, this welfare for the rich. I'll bet the new gal coming in would do something about this ########. It's time to turn out the lights on this party. It's time to write a letter to Nancy Pilosi, incoming Speaker of the House.

Ms. Pilosi is new and is rearin' to prove herself. Let's take advantage of this situation while we can. Every truck driver out there who is fed up should sit down and write her a letter detailing all the ways truck drivers get reamed by companies, trucking schools, docks, the DOT, and even DAC.

Now's your chance, so do it up!

    'Nuff said, ladies and gentlemen.

Because their orange trucks are just so dreamy! :laughing1:

Any truth to the rumor that CRE is buying out Central Air Reefer, or what ever it's called?
