Right now the producers are losing about $400 per head while the packers are making $1000 profit off that same head of cattle. The guy who has the authority I use has fats ready to go now but the buyers said it will be 60 to 90 days before they can take them. So he has to implant them again and cut the feed ration back so they stop gaining as much per day and then hope they’re not much heavier than 1600 pounds when it’s time to ship them. All the while our government decides its a good times to start allowing imports from Central and South America again.

I guess that explains the disparity. I live in beef land. Beef is sold out and shelves are bare but the price on the hoof is waay down and theres cows in every pasture.Deere hunter Thanks this. -
And there is so much corruption surrounding JBS it isn’t even funny. But the USDA just lets them keep doing what they want. Last year a large cattle feeder in KS had a contract to send a certain number of head to JBS in Greeley. He suspected they were grading his cattle lower than what they were so he sent some loads from the same pen to National Beef and somehow they graded higher and brought more money than what JBS was giving him.
There’s not really anything that compares to this in the trucking industry.Swine hauler, Deere hunter and FoolsErrand Thank this. -
