I have picked up and delivered to military bases, and even picked up from the Denver Mint(that was probably my most interesting load.....$72,000........ IN BULK PENNIES, it weighed 35,xxx pounds)..... and only needed to use my TWIC.....
YTF is a TWIC not good enough to pick up BEER?Last edited: May 15, 2020

The concepts of negligent entrustment and negligent hiring, plus the food safety act of 2010.
Not saying I agree with the logic, but if their lawyers think that by verifying a driver has a valid cdl they can get summery judgement, then they will. -
I can understand the additional standards for HAZMAT..... but BEER? SMMFH -
I'd probably get one of those fakes except with an address of a derelict property in the state next door(Texas). Keep that one on in an easy to reach place and on an 8' stick for the "unpleasantness". Most run-of-the-mill shipping spots won't spot the difference or have the ability to run a check. Even the two places I tend to get unloaded at the most don't do ID checks surprisingly.
Coffey Thanks this. -
The only shippers I give my CDL number to are the ones I trust, companies we've done business with for several years, and I've been to many many times. All others, they get my TWIC card, if they don't like, too bad, I had one argue with me, I pointed out that it's actually issued by the federal govt, not the state govt, and has a more secure background check. If they continue to argue, I point out that I've used my TWIC card when asked to show ID at multiple US Military bases and they've let me in, only Ft. Carson asked for my CDL as well.

Also consider this - shipper uses a broker. Broker hires White Volvo Transport for the load. WVT picks up load, shipper doesn't verify WVT driver has a valid CDL. WVT runs over a gaggle of nuns. The ensuing investigation shows that WVT driver did not hold, nor has ever held, a valid CDL.
The Vatican sues WVT, the broker, and the shipper for, among other things, negligent entrustment.
Shipper tries for summery judgement dismisal. Even if they get the dismissal, it still cost the shipper several thousand dollars for legal fees and productivity loss. If they don't get the dismissal, then their defense will run into the 10s of thousands, minumum. The shipper will win, but it will cost them.
If they had a policy that made drivers show a valid, non expired cdl, then the shipper has some level of protection and is more likely to get the civil suit dismissed early in the process.
Again, not saying I endorse this logic in any way, shape or form. Just saying this is one reason why shippers amd receivers want to see a cdl before they let you on the property.91B20H8 Thanks this.
