Does your automatic transmission ever quit on you right when you're coming out of a stop at a light?

    I really hate Def

I've been driving this automatic Mack for about 6 months now. I'm finally getting used to the thing except more than once now when the light turns green and I start to move, the transmission will just slip out of gear and leave me stranded in the intersection for about 10 seconds before it allows me to get back in gear and keep moving.

This only happens after starting from a complete stop, and only when it tries to upshift from the first gear from that complete stop.

That’s the new normal, just a slight mil-second voltage spike from the alternator will leave you dead in the water, at an intersection, RR crossing, etc. It happened to me more than once, with different trucks.
Have also had the shift box on top of the transmission puke out on me.

The Detroit DT-12 transmission don't do that. It turns on the engine brake between gears in low range to kinda help it shift. Maybe so it doesn't miss gears when it skip shifts

My truck does something like that when it decides to start moving in too high of a gear. When I'm loaded I gross 78-79k. Sometimes the tranny selects 3rd to start. When I stop and it's in 3rd I downshift to 2 or 1, depending on conditions. If I don't and the starting gear is too high I will start moving and the tranny will downshift and itbtakes a few seconds for it to resume moving. It sometimes feels like 2 lifetimes before it starts moving.

Make sure starting gear is appropriate for conditions like weight & up/down hill, etc.

####, today I learned. Never really put any thought into how the truck could consistently skip from 1st to 4th without any sort of hangups...

I had a dt12 that used to drop out of gear when it got real cold. Always 7th gear. Pain in the butt. Stick shift will always be king

Have run a DT-12 for a while. None of them have done this. Wonder if it is a parameter setting. If so, that function was not set on my truck.

It depends on how much power you want and the gear your in. The two DT-12 I have driven do it. In first gear put pedal to the floor. The RPMs will go to like 1700 to shift. If you listen you can hear the engine brake come on when it's between gears.
