Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Day before yesterday, got a load assignment to hook an empty dry van and head to Chesapeake for a live load.

Arrived at the shipper, and it's an Americold warehouse. And immediately I'm thinking I'd just made a 2hr drive for nothing.

But nope, it's a load of peanuts in big 1-ton bags. No refrigeration required.

Apparently these are some very special peanuts, because right after I recieved the load assignment, prior to me hooking the empty and leaving the yard, my DM called me and told me "Make sure you got 5 ratchet straps." I had four in the dogbox, so I picked up one on the way. And the shipper had me secure these big bags of peanuts (that honestly didn't seem like they were in any danger of falling over, but whatever). He'd put in a couple rows, then have me secure it with a strap. Then he'd put in another couple rows and have me secure it with a strap. Etc.

And I'm sure glad my DM called me and told me, because the other Abilene driver who came up behind me wasn't so lucky. His DM didn't tell him about the straps, and he didn't have a single one. So he had to drop his trailer in the dock and bobtail over to Frank's to buy five straps.

He bought the wrong straps.

So he had to bobtail BACK to Frank's to buy the right straps.

I got to avoid all that 'cause my DM was on top of things.

So yesterday I called him and expressed my appreciation.

And I dunno if it has anything to do with anything, but I got a pre-load last night to send me on my way this morning after getting unloaded at my 5:30am delivery.

 

Man, I dunno what they're loading me up with here, but they are beating the ever-lovin' snot out of my trailer. They're hitting the bulkhead so hard my coffee pot is throwing coffee everywhere.

 

I hope you told 'em plenty of our drivers junk the equipment up just fine, we don't need them boys speedin' up the process.

 

Be careful, I have read that some of those HEPA filters contain fiberglass. Read the labels carefully.

 

Turns out they were loading rolls of plastic sheeting. Laying 'em lengthwise along the trailer with the end of the roll butted up against the front of the trailer. The massive shaking was from them ramming the rolls into the front of the trailer and then ramming other rolls into the ones already there.

 

Only took 2.5 days in the hospital before I had to start getting asinine. SMDH

 

Sat around half the morning,only to get sent a 600 mile 2 stopper that doesn't deliver till Sunday,I was displeased lol.

 

Extra $25 tho.
