I know some trailers run their mudflaps on the DOT bumper, but I saw something rather strange today.
A Standard 53’ Dry Van
Guy had a mudflap that was torn out of its hanger (the hanger was all bent and messed up). He fastened it to the DOT bumper with zip ties. The other mudflap on the other side was undamaged and normally fastened to the hanger.
I’m wondering if that’s legal and If I can do that temporarily in the future, as I have from time to time backed into potholes and curbs and messed up my mudflap. It’s usually happens at the worst of times when I don’t have the time to properly fix it.
Mud flap fix legality.

Seems vague enough to allow attaching it to the bumper with zip ties.
Just fishing to see if anyone else has done this before.truckdriver31 and PE_T Thank this. -
I’ve seen many trailers with mud flaps behind the DOT bumper and a gap of about 6 feet from the tire. How does this make any sense? Also, the very high mud flaps that are like 2 feet from the ground on many dump trucks. Hahaha.

"Just caught that on my in transit inspection about an hour ago Officer. Zip tied it to the bumper so I could get down the road to have it replaced properly." That statement should be sufficient.

how it's attached will be a problem. zip ties ? probably not legal because of liability if it flew off and damaged another vehicle

I seen a guy stick a child's crazy carpet (for sliding down snowy hills) onto the back of his trailer with vice grips

I don't know about the book.
What I was told. From previous employers. They had to simply cover the top half of tire. Includes rim and hub.
I don't remember any distance off hand. -
