I forgot to add that most trainers will not get upset about the use of an inverter. He knows that you need that phone and he'll probably have you looking up stuff for him/her on your puter anyway! No, power use isn't a problem unless you get the usual "power monger" (no pun intended) who's sole porpose in life is NOT to teach you anything that will take any effort on his part and will use you for logging and money poporses only! As far as I'm concerened they aren't worth the fleas falling off their useless carcausses! I've always believed that if I take your money you'll get a full days work and if it's for training I KNOW my students were trained the way the company wanted BUT also the way I KNOW they should be trained!

I've known a few trainers who do use a crock pot in the truck and "family style" dinners are the norm for them as it's cheaper to cook for 2 as it is for 1! And at todays prices, thats a GOOD thing! Even sharing a cooler for the more experienced and laid back trainers is normal as they know you aren't getting rich while learning! Just follow the advice you need and iif good use it!
    Good Luck

I'm really glad you posted a reply. I don't know exactly what it will be like out there but I HAVE to get away from what I've been doing for almost 20 years. I hate to admit it, but I have been working in an office in a 6'x6' cubicle answering phones for customer service. (You mentioned in that other post that some people should just do office work.) Being on the phone for 8-10 hours a day with customers non-stop for someone who HATES to talk on the phone really gets to you after that much time. I know being cooped up in a truck 24/7 will be very confining too but at least I can see the outdoors, right? No windows in a cubicle! And not to mention getting away from all the office gossip and constant chatter about everyone and their mother's problems might be somewhat of a relief.

My husband has been driving with a Class B for 15 years and for the last 2 years I'd been thinking about us driving OTR as a team but we never looked into it seriously. Now we have both been laid off from our jobs due to downsizing, so I figured this would be the time to do it if any.

P.S. I think all the exclamation points you used made me think you were yelling at me but I know better now! :biggrin_25525:

Always remember you can tell a woman writer from a man by the number of exclamation points used! Men !!!! Women ! That's from a neighbor going through computer forensics classes! Some of the things you learn when not working! LOLOL!
Get Hubbie to up grade to a class A or you could do your A and both team for an expediter like FedX and lease a 6 or 10 wheeler box truck!

Yeah, hubbie and I are going for our Class A at the same time. Hopefully we both pass.

Hey, I did a search and I don't see where anyone has mentioned bringing a hair dryer with them. Should I bring a small one with me for training?

Wannabe most T/S showers have them, but I don't if they work. I don't have much to dry and don't need them. A 300 watt inverter is big enough to charge your laptop and I suggest buying a car charger for the cell.

You might want to bring a hair dryer if you need it. I have yet to find a shower in a truck stop that had one.

I stopped in the Pilot today on the north side of Fort Worth on 35W (Roanoke maybe?) right across from Cabelas to grab something to drink and noticed they had a 300W inverter for $29.99 (I think). I think someone was on here mentioning the inverter on sale. Maybe that helps.

Walmart also sells them in the automotive dept for that price or cheaper, for the 300w inverter. Black & Decker is the brand.

It depends on the laptop. My 300 will not power the big one at all.
