Sounds like bad coax and a lack of rf ground causing it.

The filter connects to the power cord, not the coax. The problem is, if the noise is coming in through the antenna, that filter isn't going to help.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Okay, I was trying to answer your question...

"How does a filter figure out whats alt noise vs rec noise?"

Basically the dc filter Rabbi is showing only has one job and that's to filter the DC power source. That is a killer filter that he has, if that can't solve a power problem, nothing can. Lol.

So tonight I finally had some time and decent weather to install the ground straps. They did absolutely nothing to help the problem.

Below is a picture and video to show you the final install and the sound coming from my speaker.

Now, the first bit of the video has the volume of my West Mountain Radio ClrSpkr turned all the way to the max and the filtering completely turned off. Of course, I never ride with it like that. I did that just for demonstration purposes so you could hear the sound very obviously and very clearly. About midway through the video I turn the volume down and the filtering up to where I would normally keep it. The noise is almost not noticeable until you rev the engine.

Now something peculiar about this is that you almost can't hear it when I have the RF gain turned all the way up. I suspect the fancy speaker is doing a great job of filtering it out in the process of filtering out all the other static.

Something else I just noticed that's extremely peculiar is that if I just use the the speaker built into my Cobra 29 LX radio, there is no alternator noise at all. Only when using the ClrSpkr does the alternator noise come through. It, too, is wired straight to the battery via the same fused hot and ground as the radio. 20200609_194115.jpg

The braided will not do much for the noise cause its basically joining the trucks metal together to act as one..it helps the ant..
I did post a pic and said test every connection re ant and test coax..

Did you unhook coax from radio to see if noise was still there?.
Did you turn off your inverter to see if any noise changed?

Does sound like the alt though...just saw vid .Just to be 100 % sure pull the coax away from radio..If its there still it is alt if not ant is picking up the noise...Might need a filter like rabbi posted,i know zero about that..Rabbi is a good guy to ask about that and ridgeline knows his stuff as well

Oh, I was thinking this would help with the noise. (Shrug) Guess it can't hurt? Was a pain in the ### to do. I had to take off more pieces of exterior trim than I had expected because the door hinge bolts were covered up on the body side.

I'm still not home and won't be until this weekend so no ohm meter. I'll do that when I get home.

Yes and yes. I forgot to mention that. Unhooking the coax from the radio changed nothing. Turning off the inverter and every other electrical device with the capacity to be turned off (laptop, phones, tablet, Bluetooth headset, etc.) changed nothing.

I'm more convinced now than ever it's alternator noise. What I'm curious about is why it only shows up in my West Mountain Radio ClrSpkr?
