The wettest I took this year was 19.6%. Field had a lot of replant corn in it. The elevator didn't balk at taking it but the guy did move to another field when he saw the dock.

We were trying to get it under 18% up in Nebraska last year. Didn't always make it. The elevators up there were dumping in separate locations depending on wetness. They didn't dock hardly at all, even at 20%.

Hi all, I need help. Since my problem is specific to our line of work I thought I'd ask here rather than post a new thread... I am having one heck of a time with getting my truck scaled correctly... If you've read any of my post on http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...erator/70022-instant-o-o-and-load-boards.html you'll know the kind of problems I am having. Otherwise here it is... I have a stationary 5th wheel. no air gage in dash. knowing this I have the load placed at 27k rear and 24k front this load I had them put the load over the door and at the scale I get 11300 ST 34560 DR 33360 TN how can I keep from having to shovel this crap everytime????? what do you do ? what should I do? thanks ps I'm looking for a 90psi gage for the dash...:yes2557:

Our 2 trucks have stationary 5th wheels too, but I was lucky enough that I didn't have to move them. I don't know how much moving it forward one hole would change your axle weight. Getting a pressure gauge in the dash would probably help you a lot, and its not too expensive or difficult to install. I don't know what kind of stuff you're hauling, but when I'm loading corn, I fill the front until its got just shy of 50 psi, then pull to the back hopper, and it should be about 61 or so when its loaded. I don't check my axle weights very often, just when I get a different truck or trailer until I've learned what they need.

If nothing else, you could load it a little heavier on the back, then if its too heavy on the back, you could just get it rolling then stomp on the brakes!

the right weigh would be nice but I need to earn something before I can afford them... all of this time wasted moving crud is costing me load after load.. how much are the right weigh guages?

I've been loading 27k rear 24k front and still end up over on my drives:biggrin_25521:

I'd just have them load lighter until you can get that gauge in.

Waldo can you move you fifth wheel forward? I thought I seen in an old post you had a TA move it for you. Is it now as far forward as it will go?
If you can not change anything you need to ask the shippers for 24 ton instead of 25. I know you are going to say if will cost you $35 to $70 for 1 less ton. You need to figure the amount of time and effort it is costing you to get that extra 1 ton legal. It is time to work smarter not harder.
I would ask the shipper for 24,000 in each hopper. Scale it. Add more if you can stand it. If it is legal at the shipper(as far as you can tell by shipper scales) be happy with 24 tons and get on the road. You may be 1 ton lighter than you would like but,you will not be nearly as tired from shoveling.
Good-luck. I bet you figure it out.

    7mouths2feed Thanks this.

I bought the liquid filled gauges one mounted in the trailer box and the other on the crossmember by the pogostick that way I dont have to get in and out of the truck

and if your fifth wheel will move it needs to go forward that will help I run mine all the way up over the lead tandem on the stops but your position will vary but that will help shift some off the drives

once you calibrate a right weigh and record the steer weight at that 5th wheel position you will always know what the steer weighs at 34k

a hundred bucks is a lot cheaper than all that shoveling

Went over to TA to get 5th wheel moved... said they wouldn't do it... PO'd me so I was gonna try to tackle it with my 1/2in breaker bar.. :biggrin_2553:

Next time anyone speaks to my wife tell her how much I love her!!!:yes2557::yes2557: Seems without me knowing she loaded my 3/4 socket set and a cheater bar in the truck this past weekend. Moving 5th wheel forward 2 holes (?) 800lbs. That should help alot...

wayne I like your optomism on the per ton pay... I'd kiss the ground if I got that high a pay per ton... which means your point is even more valid than before... thanks... taking a breather.. have to finish tighening the bolts then scale.. I'll let you know how it works out....
