I think I'd be calling the bank and tell them they can either finance a transmission or they can come get their busted ### truck at the scalehouse.

I honestly dont' know how much of this is you rob and how much is the truck. You hd no idea what to look at when you bought it and that $25k price tag doesn't look so good anymore

    WallyGator Thanks this.

    I like that idea.

Good point, but can you even reasonably evaluate a tranny when buying a truck? Cant really see what is going on inside of it, and if it sounds and shifts right, I suppose even long time vets would assume it was good.

How DO you avoid a situation like this?

You could do lube oil samples for metal content, ect.
But mostly I think its just plain luck other then a thorough test drive and inspection.

Can maybe call a power only co and have it repowered, at least you won't look bad to the customer. If you want I can go to the T/A and talk to a mechanic for you, not sure how much more help that would be .. Guys on here are probably much more knowledgeable anyway.

    hmmmm

I would say ALOT more knowledgeable!!!:biggrin_25514:

Calling those guys mechanics is a bit much, more like part changers.
They won't touch most engine repairs just accessories like starters,
    alternators, batteries, and tires etc.:biggrin_25523:

Yeah. It seems like a difficult problem to diagnose... The nearest pete dealer is 40 mins away and I'd hate to drive all the way over there for nothing. Just trying to figure out ways to get him going again so that at the very least he can deliver his load on Monday..

How far does it need go go, Rob?

If it starts with his foot off the clutch and idles in neutral without any horrible sounds then the trans is plenty good.

He's got a problem with the shift tower or the shift bar housing/assembly.

Yeah and I'd say for sure that the dealer is closed on a Sunday.

Unless they could wait awhile on the load the only thing to do would
be to repower it. What about 5mouths is he anywhere near there?
