My fuel filter has about 5000 miles on it . The fuel level in the glass bowl is low for the past 5000 miles , but it is still primed enough to crank . Can a leaking fuel line cause this ? Do I have a bad manufactured filter or did I install it wrong ? I changed the check ball after leaning overnight that caused me to loose prime with a hard start . What do you guys think causes this low fuel filter level that's not going up in the glass ?

I think you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. If you did install it wrong, you would have issues with running engine by now.

When it's full it's time to replace the filter, when its low it's still a clean filter. Davco filter setup is the best out there for this reason imo.

When the fuel reaches the top, time to change it.

And if you're leaning the truck to either side really good with less than say a 1/4 tank, itll transfer to the low side and you'll suck air.

Mine is the same way since I changed it about 10 days ago. Mine has never ran that low for very long. Truck is running fine, maybe just getting some clean fuel. The level only goes up as the filter gets dirty/clogged.

What brand filter? I put a Baldwin on this time, usually use Luberfiner or Donalson.

    henboy1 Thanks this.

This is a Detroit filter . At 5000 miles it's usually half way by now . It's still low and I can barely see it . Maybe i am getting better fuel

This my experience with the detroit filter as well vs using a Baldwin. Baldwin may filter more microns then detroit, I prefer the detroit filters, they're cheaper for from the dealer and last longer.

Ive had this same question with the same engine. Mine does this occasionally when I change the filter and put fuel back in(about an inch up on the glass) It goes down and doesn't come back up for a bit sometimes. It still runs fine and no bubbles that I can see..... Give it some time the fuel level will raise up.

    henboy1 and whoopNride Thank this.
