let’s take an alcoholic for example. They say once you’re an alcoholic you’re always an alcoholic. However I’ve known people who put the bottle down and never touched it again for the rest of their lives. 30 years never drank again. We’re they cured? You tell me?

same logic for Type two diabetes. Let’s say for example you ate an extremely high carb diet, never exercise and you weigh 350 pounds and you go to the doctor and he tells you you’re diabetic with type two diabetes. You go out you lose 150 pounds, you walk 2 to 3 miles a day five days a week you go back to the doctor and they say your blood sugar levels are normal. You maintain that lifestyle for years, decades and live a full life without diabetes. Were you cured? Where I come from I’d call that a cure.

Patrick Peterson of the Arizona Cardinals was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2015, he says it is now under control with diet. So a professional athlete who could outrun all of us was diagnosed with type II there are factors at work other than just exercise. Diet is huge! Peterson was not some huge lineman.

Barnwell: Cardinals extending Patrick Peterson could be tough negotiation

Probably 10's of thousands with Type 2 driving trucks. Many don't admit having it so they can get a 2 yr. card.
My buddy was on insulin and always got a 2 yr. card because the kept that private. He used insulin for about 15 years and then retired with a nice pension.

There’s always outliners with anything. I mentioned diet and exercise, overall health. But yeah, There are some professional athletes out there who believe it or not are in horrible health. What’s the famous golfer who was an absolute stumbling fall down drunk alcoholic? Many athletes are alcoholics. Some professional football players may develop type two diabetes and be more prone to it because they use drugs like steroids etc. pro bodybuilders are a prime example. They eat like crap, excessive, take roids, Many are drug addicts and alcoholics and develop type two diabetes.

But come on now you guys get the point. I go fir a 2-5 mile walk most days at truck stops, rest stops etc, wherever I can get it in. I RARELY see any others drivers out moving. Just to hobble Inside and buy McDonald’s. I wish more of you exercised.

That brisk walk is the best exercise you can get.
Doctor told me to quit jogging and start walking instead. She said walking is more healthy.

I’d say it depends on your age. Jogging and running should be better for your body and heart, but it’s not safe for older people.

I went to the doc last fall and he had some blood work done. My blood sugar was in the 180s. Pre-diabetic he said. Scared me. Told me to start by losing some weight. Been trying to get this weight off for a awhile but could never get serious about it. Got serious about it real quick. Low carb diet with a lot of walking and time on the exercise bike. Down 60+ pounds and my blood sugar was 107 last week. So I don't know if you can say that diet and exercise can cure anything, but it sure can't hurt.
And just by looking at many people I see, and not just truck drivers, I wonder how many have diabetes and don't even know it.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 3 months ago, straight up day 1 stopped eating any BS. No breads, pasta, cokes, cereals crap that was processed or carb loaded and started eating really clean.
The difference is night and day. My Blood sugar was 300, my A1C was 10.3 luckily my cholesterols were in check. My liver enzymes were elevated etc the day I found out.
Fast forward 3 months, My last 30 day blood sugar average is 106, my A1C is 6.7 my liver enzymes are back to normal and my cholesterol is even better.

My BP was also elevated. I would not have passed a DOT. Now I have zero doubts on passing a DOT

So yes I agree Lenny diet and exercise makes a huge difference. However I know personally type 2 diabetics you would never guess.

it does worry me I may not be able to get a driving job with Type 2 as it is already on my record. However I am sure within a period of about 6 months I will be off any meds (metformin) I do give metformin some credit for the reduction but I am on a very low dose. My goal every single day is Blood Sugar under 130.
