Hey everybody! I want to get into trucking but I have a couple questions first.

-If I have 4 points on my license at the time I'm applying for jobs, will I still be able to get one? I currently have 11 points on my license but I expect to be down to 4 points by January 2021, and I also have a 30-day suspension on my record from years ago. How will companies view me?

-Does it matter which trucking school I go to? I have heard mixed answers on this, someone told me some schools will be viewed as better than others while someone else told me a Class-A CDL is a Class-A CDL. My plan is to go to trucking school and get a CDL here in New Jersey, and then look for a job out west somewhere and move across the country. Does this seem viable?

Yes, good idea. "Go West young man."
Western Express will probably hire you. This company hires from any cdl school.

As to the points, I think it depends on the company and what type of traffic infraction it is for. If possible, do everything you can to keep those off your record but if you can't, learn from this mistske.

"Go West, Young Man, Go West" | Encyclopedia.com

"GO WEST, YOUNG MAN, GO WEST" was an expression first used by John Babsone Lane Soule in the Terre Haute Express in 1851. It appealed to Horace Greeley, who rephrased it slightly in an editorial in the New York Tribune on 13 July 1865: "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country."

Get all the endorsements while in cdl school.
This will lead to more money and more job opportunities.

Reno, Nevada is popular for truckers that move west. It's right on Interstate-80 that runs coast to coast.
Nevada has no personal state income taxes and no food taxes at the grocery store.

You are so right. Most of it was when I was young and foolish. I also used to work helping folks with developmental disabilities in the community and rather than tell my boss "there's no way I can make it there on time" I would speed and try to be The Man for him. Young, foolish.

The tickets are almost all speeding, with an illegal turn mixed in.

I love this post. It's my 'manifest destiny!' :p

I was all over NJ yesterday and today. I dont blame you for wanting to leave. I stayed at that Petro in Bordentown overnight.

Also had to work Pittsburgh and Philly. Some hard areas for driving these big things. My partner came within 1 inch at most in taking off some wacky curb parked side mirror.

Dont volunteer info. Answer only the question that is asked. Remember, your applying for work. Work will get easly turned off with too much info.
I already know too much about you by what you posted.
