Didn't think so, so how long exactly would you leave that car sit in your lot, in the way taking up space you could be using for paying customers? I'd just be glad nobody called you put on that one. You can't legally hold a customers vehicle even if they owe you for work on it. I worked for a guy who had more than a few people who would run up a bill and take a year or two to pay, he didn't waste time with a mechanics lien either, not much point in becoming the proud owner of a vehicle worth scrap metal price.

    Well
    I did it twice.
I know other shops have done it.
And that TA in sparks did it to me.

    And that's that.

I'm sure it works, until the day somebody calls your bluff on it and drives their pos away. How exactly did you enforce that anyway, how did they not just get in their vehicle and drive off? How did TA do it to you?

I have an older engine, no def. Wouldn't this be funny.

DEF? Why delete it? Just raise the derate speed limit to 95 and lower the derate torque limit to 1%. Then lower the threshold trigger from 69 to 10. That way it will still work fine, assuming it does work, and it won't leave you stranded if something fails. You'll just get a check engine light. I don't mind buying DEF and I don't mind fixing things when there is a problem. I do mind very much the idea that I might have to get towed or have to crawl along at five mph just because of some liquid that's supposed to squirt into the exhaust as it leaves the tail pipe. They only do that to you because they know the DEF system doesn't affect how the engine runs and they assume you won't fix it if it breaks.

I don't think those are parameters you can change.

They most certainly are. Don't ask me how I know that, but get the DDDL software and look.

Don't know what to tell you.

But if you and all else don't think it can happen.

    It does.
