Call the nearest Detroit eng. shop and find out what they est. the cost will be and take it over to their shop not the truck dealer. All they do every day is work on motors, they have set rates to do top end or in frame over/haul , but it may just need a new oil pump put on then pay them while you are looking for a new driving job? The Mi. on truck maybe 1 mil. 250,000 not just 250,000 mi.??

Things happen. The 1st let me say it is illegal to wear earphones while driving even in a 4 wheeler, if they cover both ears. Basically what you did is over rev the engine you probly bent push rods and did other damage. It's going to be very expensive. Chalk it up as a learning experience, and don't wear earphones while driving

When you say very expensive, what is a rough estimate you think?

It really depends on how severe the damage is. Could have cracked the head, bent valves, damaged rockers, sent metal through out the engine. It may need a full rebuild, they won't know until it is taken a part. If a dealer is doing the work, it could be in excess of $20k

    Coffey and Jdm5jdm5 Thank this.

2800 RPMS?!?!?!?!? DUDE!!!!!!! My goodness I've never even seen any truck I've driven reach that but if you're going to flip the bill for it, it's going to be a killer. You may get lucky at $10 - $15000 and that would be for an already rebuilt one depending on where you get it. Another member said about 20k and he may be generous there

Your employer can't make you pay for it, even if you did the damage. He/She is just trying to scare you.
