My new career - some questions

I believe that any company willing to take a driver right out of driving school will provide company training which usually entails working with a trainer for 3 to 8 weeks, doing runs for the company. What kinds of runs depends on the company, and the division within the company you go with.

I may go with Crete Carrier Corp. They take students from PTDI certified courses, and then train you for 8 weeks once you start with them. You then go solo. (By the way, they do allow 1 "baby." I'm not willing to leave my boy behind either.)

Then again, from what I gather about OTR, I may just opt for something with more home time. There are many different types of driving jobs out there, even in OTR type work.

As far as hours of training goes, If go with one of the two, you will get enough. the total time depends, on how quick you pick it up, when you are with your trainer.... good luck, Oh yeah alot of companies youse sims.
for skid pad. My company sends us to a company every year, to do ours( i just did it 2weeks ago) It's kind of like a video game...

 

Like all companies, what will happen is this, you waill go throug a 2- 3day oreentation then you will be paired with a company...Unless you do the traning through a company,then you go through the training,then orentation, then over the road training!!!! make sence? And flatbed does pay more... like i said, i pull tanker so i am just giveing you the facts as i know them..

 

Ok well, I know how Crete works, I recruit for them and hubby is a driver currently for them. First thing is you have to make sure your have gone to a credited driving school that they accept. If you want i can get you a list. Once you have put in 8 full weeks of schooling and graduate, then they will pay for to get you to orientation for the 2 days, which you will be paid 150.00 per day, plus , free meals and room for those days. then, you will get paired with a trainer and be with the trainer for a "FULL 8 weeks" for those 8 wks. you will get 500.00 for training pay wkly. once you know how to do you logs, qual com, paperwork, etc. and have some actual driving time under your belt. Your trainer has to approve you to be worthly of going solo at that time you go to the company terminal and be given your own truck. I think for a student it is like .38 cpm...(don't quote me on that since they just changed there pay scale and I don't remember what they said for students) there are other factors that go into what you make for cpm. but I do know that after your first year you will get raised to .41 cpm...so that is not too shabby any more ??? send me a message.

 

Not always.... The companies you worked for that went out of business do you have any of your w-2's from them? if so you can send proof that you worked for that company for that time period...even if its a 1099 form that shows you got wages....for that company. It sounds like you have just found yourself some crappy companies and until I found Crete hubby and I were in the same boat. Good companies are hard to get into and if your determined to change your life around then stick to a goal. It can work, it "WILL" work and that is all there is to it.

 

Hunt is a subdivision of Crete and they are flatbed (one of the good ones as well) As I was reading the other responses here for you....they are right, that you have to make sure that you have a good driving record, and no felonies, and never go with a company that is asking for money to buy a truck...that is just crazy!! They want to check and verify employment history? what about self employment? How would they verify that?

---In my case with SNI they called a couple former customers and asked them, try and find a few numbers for former customers, 3 should do

2003 business went under (9yrs in business)
2004 worked for a company that closed there doors

---Any kind of tax form would work, dig in your tax records for that year and fax them your tax-filing papers

2004-2005 worked for another company that ended up closing there doors
2005-2006 yet another and then I moved. If it wasn't for bad luck I would have no luck at all. So finally this year I went out on my own again and have been self employed since. Unfortunately the industry I am in is slowly dying and thats why I want out (mortgage broker) I am also sick of taking peoples money having them sign there life away with no regard for there future. I can no longer make a living that way and feel good about myself. So for all the people out there who have been lied to by a mortgage broker, I am deeply sorry...I promise it wasn't me!

So my Employment record for the past 3 years is rough they are going to count it against me arent they?

As for not being able to succeed in the mortgage business on your own, I highly doubt anyone still thinks the housing market is in a boom. So I'm sure they'll understand that you are just in a real slow industry for the time being.... It WILL pick back up though, the mortgage and loan industry always does.
