Volume wise, this week was a little slower for me than the first half of the month. Still, with six sales days left, I'm feeling pretty secure in things. Better month than last month, and the best month I've had this year.

I really should rephrase that. I'm a blessed man. All our needs are met and I feel like I have a decent balance between work, personal and home life.

The word "bad" is relative, but compared to some of the heavy hitters on this forum, I realize I'm not even worthy to occupy the same owner operator field with them ;-)

A few weeks of a little bit more money and everyone's in a jolly mood, myself included.
I am about to go to a restaurant and order eggs, bacon, home fries, French toasts. If the waitress is warm and respectful, I'll leave her 5 dol tip. If she is like ' What the f...do you want?" I'll leave her 2 dol. If she is a 70 year old Grammy then I am sure she will be warm and welcoming and to her I'll leave 10 dol banknote.
My wife would not nessecarly approve of it but
I am TallJoe and that's what I decided to do in the next hour this morning. I am in a jolly mood but I woke up hungry.

    I respect it.

Back in my misbegotten youth, I worked at a bar as a line cook for about a year. It was a good job for a college kid who liked to drink. That said, I get kinda particular about tipping, since we were all friends with the wait staff. At least there, they used to take care of us, or not- and it was usually the ones who were doing well who tipped out, and they were also the friendlier more outgoing types. I tend to either swing in one of two directions: If you do well, I leave a pretty stout tip. 25% is not out of the realm of possibility. If you're less than stellar? You're really lucky to get the two bucks Joe'd leave. :p

On tipping, I worked in a lot of restaurants throughout high school and college. I delivered about a million pizzas and a lot else. I tip large if the service is good. As I've gotten older I have succumbed to being a grouch and if you suck so does your tip....but if you're good you win!

Wealthy people, religious folks and minority cultures rarely tip (mostly people that are not their own race). Wealthy people never worked in restaurants so I get that, although I always hated it. It's truer than true. As for the cheap ### church groups and big family groups that expect to pay nothing for service I have no explanation.

Since I'm in a take or leave it mode, I decided to bid on a JB load picking up near my delivery this morning. I just didn't like the delivery appt time on the consignee side, so I figured, what the heck I'll give them a number.

430 miles they had a "book it now rate" of $1,000, no thanks.

    I bid $2,000
    They counter $1,100
    I counter $1,900
    They counter $1,300
    I counter $1,900
    They counter $1,500
    I counter $2,000
    They counter $1,900
I accept the load at $1,900 LOL

I hardly doubt they lost their shorts even paying 90% more than their "book it now" rate.
