Hey, do you guys feel good sometimes that you have a CDL? It is the pinnacle of driving. It's like being a fighter pilot among other pilots lol.

Scariest part of trucking is eating something that give you the ####s. and trying to find a place to go right now.

That is simply not true if u are OTR. They will make u stay out there for atleast 4 weeks. U are given 1 day off for every 6 days on the road. With a maximum of 4 days hometime. So u get the same amount of hometime whether ur gone 4 weeks or 4 months. Unless u want to use vacation time and turn in ur truck

farmerjohn64 and hopeful eyes Thank this.

I feel good that i can make a living doing what i love. I enjoy talking to old school truckers that arent afraid to give some tips about the business and things to watch out for. Unfortunatly those guys are few and far between and there is not much of a community out here. U are really all alone most of the time , even when u are around other truckers.

    Disturbing.

How does one make plans to spend money that he has yet to earn? You haven't even started, yet you've got the money spent. Aren't you the one that's always bellyaching about neck pain and curse God because of the pain you are in? So, if the pain is too much for you to bear or you just plain suck at driving and your truck gets repo'ed, whose fault is that?

As long as I am healthy, there is no power in the world that can force me to let my car get repo'ed. I have problem with God because he damaged my neck and it was not my fault. But I am hopeful. My pain is getting better.

i think that my response was to the fact of what i see on a near daily basis. one accident after another.

yeah, there will be accidents given the massive numbers of ALL vehicles on the roads, that's a given. but when it's one trucker after another.........i find it hard to believe that the driver was a professional.

it's just the way i have been feeling since well before i retired.

yeah, standards or training, had most certainly changed. this is why i'd support "up to" a 3 year apprenticeship program for all new entrants.

trucking may not be rocket science, but sheesh, given the accident rates, injuries, deaths, lawsuits, arrests, drugged out drunkard drivers, i see no real way to clean up the industry.
