No. There's small amounts of precious metal in them, but they're only value is what the face value is. Not counting collectors.

I've said for a long time what is the actual value of gold? You can't eat it. You can't use it for shelter, or use it for a blanket.

    It's symbolic.

I assure you there are lots of people that would trade tons of gold for a few ounces of plutonium.

Right on all counts. So why save your change to the extent that you apparently have?

A US nickle is the only coin that is still a non clad coin. Though I find it humorous that the nickle is the name of the denomination as well as the mineral name. All the rest of the coins that are in circulation have some form of cladding. The cladding is a form of layering that allows the US Mint to create coins with metals that are cheaper than the original metal used (silver for dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars. Tho pennies were solid coper) to create currency.

It just happened. Got a full 44 ounce cup, then filled a 32 ounce cup next to it.

When that got full, I was thinking, " Man that's a lot of change."

So started filling up the big coffee mate containers.

I've 8 of those now lol. It's several hundred pounds.

Someone, sprawling out, has knocked the water dish off of the cooler into the dry food dish.

Several years ago my wife started saving all of her loose change. No, that's not right. She started saving up all of MY loose change. Hers stays in her purse until she spends it. Anyway, I told her one day she needed to leave me a little bit of it so I wouldn't always have to break a bill. So now she does. She takes all of my change except she leaves me one penny. I give up.
