I dont know about High school!!.........but any company that hires newbies will want at least 10 years, trust me........dont make anything up, just leave blank and let them ask and they will prior to inviting you to orien. (then you can ask them how they want you to prove it) They want to make sure they get those training funds.

No, you dont understand, trucking companies get federal funds for hiring a driver trainee (Post CDL School) and training them for 4-8 weeks OTR. Nothing to do with school. I'm not sure the amount, but its enough to for many companies to get involved in the program. I was reading an artical in in a trucking industry magaizine, they interviwed the CEO's of 3 or 4 big companies that hire students and all agreed it cost them about $5k-$7K per student to put them through over the road training. Things like additional insurance, self insured accidents, extra pay for trainers, non production due to trainng activities. These funds are are available to off set some of these expenses, and help grow the industry.Last edited: Sep 25, 2009
luvtheroad Thanks this. -
So I still need the info for 10 years. i am going to call the accountant on Monday.
I may have to call the IRS.
Just another stump to jump over. -
SOME companies require the full 10 years. Others like Swift, Prime, and a few others, (but very few) only go back as long as you have been driving. Period. Swift will flat out tell you if you worked at Taco-Bell or were in school 10 years ago they dont give a terd about that, and neither will DOT. They only need your experience that you actually drove, and points in between where you did something other than driving between two other jobs where you actually drove. If you got 10 years driving professionally and comercially then yes you have to have it. If not, some only require 3 years. But it all ultimately rests in your hands of how bad you want it. If you want it, you will find what you need for that company. If not, try another company.

1. income tax records for the years I was self employed
2. a noterized letter from someone who would state that I was indeed self employed during the time I said that I was.
I had my own business in 2007-2008 but had to do a work history for the last ten years with some of them.
As far as 1099's you might need, you can contact IRS and they can send you what you need.
I just went through what you're going through for a job. And from what I understand, it's not the companies who are making us jump through the hoops it is the government. That could be wrong but that's what I've been told.
Best of luck... -
I'm sure someone will jump in and tell us why they changed these regs mid 2007. I know a guy that was a 1099 employee for a couple years doing odd jobs and for an apartment complex and other odd jobs for cash, and all the biggies would not touch him as a student trainee, because the apartment complex would not write a letter telling them how many hours on average he was on the propety. I suspect that the amount represented on the 1099 was little or nothing. He was a good driver too, he finally just gave up when it got into 6 months out of school and no bites...and that was back in 2007 when things were still hopping.
