Yes The bridge formula is federal and covers a maximum on all federally funded highways, but on state only funded highways the state's may have shorter rules or even lower allowed GVW.
You should check your rules in your latest atlas for the state's you are going to travel in with a less than standard length unit to insure you can gross out if you are traveling off the federal system.
