Well I'm glad I have a new trainer. He still does some of the log stuff BUT he actually trains me on backing and all other things with trucking. He's 64 and has been at it for 20 years. He's a clean nice guy and sits in the front seat a lot. I threw him in the back when I hit the brakes hard. I was in WI and the lines to the road disappeared due to a intersection and I didn't know about the WI out in the country large intersections. I'm from IL we don't really have too many of those. So because I saw no lines and didn't know if the road was going to curve or if i'd just missed a sign and came to a T in the road I hit the brakes pretty hard felt the trailer move in the 5th wheel a tad and got off the brakes all at the same time while he flew in the bunk up to the catch net.
I heard a big what the F bomb and i said sorry and the lines came back... Scared the hell out of me! I apologized about 10000 times and we got to our dock in WI a few hours later he didn't even seem to mind then we drove down to SC and and back.
At the start of the gorge on the east bound side he was driving and has driven it for 15 years. Totally had me grabbing the grab handle on the door he takes those curves like a sports car would mostly at 65..
I'm very impressed by his experience and am going to make the best of it!
All in all I feel really good about this guy
oh and I get every 3rd weekend off! Friday,sat , sunday for the family

I run gorge every week, always se supertruckers trying to run over 55mph whining on the cb "whos going so slow" and if ur one of those bite me
.
Definalty stay out of the left lane, u will get a ticket, and remember you can drive the gorge as many times as u like too slow but just once to fast and roll and ur done.. Seen a few rollovers through there.
I normally have students drive gorge in daylight, and yes there are some corners u want to slow to at least 45mph on. Good practise for em.
Glad ur getting on with ur new trainer better, and remember it will get better. -
