It's not a roll cage like you think. It's factory builtin to protect in case of roll-over. All cars and light trucks are required to have them from the factory, so I'm assuming semi's to too.

    No they don't.

Many companies are using composites which are stronger than metal in many designs.

Well what about the mirrors? Did they make the support arms out of fiberglass too? It only takes 9' of wire to make a ground plane for 11-meters.

It almost seems like they don't want you to have a 2-way radio in your rig. Is that some kind of distracted driving forced compliance thing?

Its cost cutting and bs like that..No more antennas on the mirrors anymore either cause its affect on areodynamics...A penny saved is a penny earned...

The standard formula for calculating ground plane length in feet is 234/f where f = frequency in MHz. CB is 27 MHz so 234/27 = 8.67 feet. We actually used this as kids. We fastened a mobile CB antenna to a 2x4 wood plank and stuck it out my buddy's bedroom window (it was on the second floor), then took a piece of electrical wire and cut it to about 9' long. We fastened the stripped end of the wire to the bracket holding the Firestick, just let it hang down, and got an SWR of less than 2.1.
