Talk about rebuilding your own motor is fun, but time is money.
One of the best Detroit rebuilders in the country will build you a motor, all DD parts except turbo, new bull gear, put it on dyno For 3-4 hours, reset the rack.
It’s takes 2-3 days to replace your engine and you get a warranty, can be done for less than 20k, you lose maybe 5 days of work.
Thes best used truck is one that a owner has spent a ton of money on before bailing out, they are around with some searching.
But while you’re planning and dreaming the government is inching closer to upping insurance minimum to 2 million, it has passed the house, ask for a price.

Go for it. You could get your own truck and lease on with another company. But you’re effin yourself at the same time. But it’s all relative. You don’t have the real experience and it will cost you money. You can bet on that. As long as you can work on the truck yourself. At least for the most part. Or be good at YouTube. Sounds like you have your finances in order. If U can keep all business related purchases on one account or two, for business only. It would help U out.

Speaking of things not going as planned. When these guys tel you that u need a lot of money to start. It’s bc things never go as planned. And sometimes they never go as planned for a couple years. It’s hard to ride several #### storms out. If u have multiple trucks. You have more to deal with. Like guys said, this is far too stressful to do for fun. And when u aren’t making any money, it isn’t any fun. I believe having a truck with an after treatment causes as many problems as it fixes. I don’t have new trucks. But some companies won’t lease u on. Have your own authority and u don’t have to worry.

Alright, don't laugh, but I bought a box truck. I'm in the process of getting my own authority, and will be using a broker that a buddy of mine uses. This will be a safer way to get my feet wet. I thought a lot about what you guys said, and between cost of truck and insurance, I just couldn't see it working without using credit cards. So I will wait until my MC gets tempered, and I learn this business before I buy a "real truck".

I have a few questions for you, if you're around.

How was it when you had your own authority? I see this JustTruckin guy talking about negotiating rates and getting all of these $3-5/mile loads but it can't be the case for every single load for him. Did you ever negotiate loads posted on the boards? Did you ever try to secure contracts being a single truck outfit? I'd like to start out the gate as my own authority, but that leads to my second question.

Everybody who is a trucker and even thinks about buying a truck knows about Mercer and Landstar. Are they good outfits or would you recommend smaller companies? I'd love to specialize in hauling government secure equipment, machinery, farm equipment, etc. I want to throw chains, not throw tarps over lumber, steel, and dry wall. I've found a company called Ace Doran that has government accounts and they hire owner operators at 76% GROSS, own internal loadboard, and offer freight in government secured contracts. But I have never heard of them otherwise and never seen any of their trucks on the road.

    Too Late.

The Beatings will start on the Eve of the 9th full moon and will hence continue until thee quarter moon or until the offender quits being offensive.

Thee 2nd offense of being Offensive will be treated as if the Offender was on his 5th offense.

Therefore the beatings will begin on the 10th full moon and continue on until New Moon

And so forth and so forth.

    So On With Your Beatings.

Lots of good advice here. Be prepared for a steep learning curve and DO NOT TOUCH THE CREDIT CARDS.

Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but I'd wait til after the election to pull the trigger on something

And Murphy's law. He shows up at the worst possible times lol
