I deliver there about once a week. I have never been unloaded in less than 6 hours and have been there for over 12 hours on several occations.
I will frequently be told this is a rush load and they need it ASAP. I would bust tail to get there not stopping to eat or for breaks. When I get there I will sit wating for a door for 4+ hours.
Several times the receiving office has taken my cell phone number, 4 hours later I go back to the office and am told "oh the number was wrong and we couldn't contact you." I was later told by a warehouse guy the never tried to call. He should me the paper with my correct number on it.
On lumper fees, pay a receiver to unload thier freight is like expecting to be paid to eat a meal you order. -
In my humble opinion and without being too specific, absolutely the worst shippers/receivers are the big corporations (take your pick) and unionized places. The corporate giants have highly paid and pumpered millionaire executives, but can't seem to be able to afford unloaders. So they make us do it personally, or force us to hire lumpers. Additionally some of them don't even provide a washroom ( a plastic cubicle outside IS NOT A WASHROOM!) The unionized places (which corporate giants often are) have the rudest, dumbest and most lazy dregs of society working there. It doesn't matter if you're in the Good Old USA or Canada, if you're dealing with union people it is absolutely and always a bad experience. What kills me the most is that these high school drop outs have the audacity to treat us like we're below them on the totem pole. Summa summarum they all treat us like garbage. Unfortunately in these hard times they've become even worse. They know we're begging for their business. All I can say is dear fellow drivers, whatever you do when met with such mistreatment - have dignity. Don't cower and hide in your bunk.

Okay I'll tell a truck driver story that I did witness first hand. I was in a dock getting unloaded at a rather large food warehouse part of which was refrigerated. About 6 trucks down there was a chicken hauler (some of the facts I learned after the incident). apparently there was a disagreement over whether or not the people were going to unload the chickens. Enter one driver who was either crazy or just a normal Joe who had taken all he was gonna take ( i vote for the latter) went back to his truck retrieved a handgun reentered the building and was very nearly unloaded by the time the police got there(most likely the fastest unload there ever) I wish I could say the story had a happy ending but it ended with the driver going to jail. I only wish I had been waiting inside to witness the whole thing. It was about this time in my driving career I realized I was probably getting to the point that it might be me going over the edge. Moved on to specialized.

western excelsior in mancos, co. they load astro-turf. on the pre-plans, it says the weight is 31,000. it's far from the truth! they wet it down, causing it to weigh nearly 47,000lbs, their on sight scale isn't accurate, and if you're going southbound, the closest public scale is at the t/a in albuquerque, nm.

--I am so sorry to hear you guys put up with this kind of non-sense. I have been driving 16 years. I run hard, pick up and deliver my freight on time, and usually give a place one time.
--I do NOT deliver to a location where I am forced to wait in inclement weather and not have a generator or be able to run my truck. If I have an appointment I expect to be unloaded at this time. I also usually call ahead to the receiver.
--I will not work for a company that does not respect me and this includes sending me to a hostile shipper or receiver.
--I drive a truck for a living and am on a time table. I do not have time to play games.
--Good luck to all you guys that have to suffer to make a living.

What I don't understand is, how does Wal-Mart get away with that ****??? The way I see it, do you want your load of (whatever) or do you NOT want your load of (whatever)? Don't tell me that I have to pay somebody else to unload the stuff that YOU ordered to be delivered to you at this location. I've got it here, now get it off my truck. Unless you want me to haul it away again...
