A GMRS Radio over a CB Radio???

That's for a dipole, not a ground plane.

you are building one when you use equal lengths of radiators.

A truck is much more complicated.

It makes a dipole. I'm telling you we did it as kids with a mobile Firestick antenna. We weren't old enough to drive, nor did we have cars. We simply purchased a cheap mobile antenna and dropped the 9' wire so we could talk on the radio.

 

Yeah I get it, but because there isn't the car, it is a dipole, in a car there are other factors that are involved.

Yes, but trucking is a BUSINESS and you can't use Ham Radio for business communications, but CB you can. Ham is great for a hobby, but one needs something a bit less regulated for the business end of things.

 

For the guys these days who even has a radio in the truck,not many use them for business very much...
Maybe to call shipper to back in or leave and same with dump trucks..

 

If you are driving a truck in revenue service and ask directions over a Ham Radio it is a violation because it's business related. If you are driving your personal vehicle and ask directions to your destination it's legal.
