All of the above are good answers. I carry a tool box with just about everything I might need on the road. A air hose, Tire plug kit, Air impact, a spare light of every kind on the truck. ( much cheaper at home than a truck stop ) A spare clamp for every size on the truck. And over time he will get all kinds of nuts and bolts washers and screws in the tool box.
I have another box that I have all kinds of elect. parts in Butt connectors crimping pliers wire cutters tape Black an Duct extra wire. If I have a problem I want to at least be able to get MYSELF to the nearest shop.
If he was a company driver for 20 years he has problem seen most everything that can go wrong, at night when raining an cold, that can go wrong.
Emergency repair necessities? PLS HELP!!!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned a spare alternator or starter.
Several of my friends carry one or the other, sometimes both.
These are simple things that can be replaced by the driver, at much reduced cost. And don't take up a lot of room in the side box. -
Thank goodness someone finally said flashlight. Don't forget extra batteries. Would also include bungee cords and tie straps. Wouldn't hurt to have a good pair of gloves for the hot stuff.

people are probably reading this wondering why we're leaving things out.. it's not that we dont find them important, but space and weight is limited. most OTR drivers try not to carry alot of weight, i know some that dont get fuel before leaving Fl just so they can be legal going over the scales, and then .. there's a whole method to it but it'll take a min to explain..
and so much for the flash light, make sure it's worth it.. dont go for "your daddys" mag light. now a days you can get a small light that out performs a larger one.. LED's are very good at what they do.. and it would be best to get a small flashlight and a headlamp, you wont always have a helper to hold the light for ya.!.!,! -
You've never seen a cop try to beat down somebody with an LED have you ??ampm wayne and kinnakeet04 Thank this. -
me too I have the led as well but there is no replacement for a mag -
Good call on the headlamp.......I work nights........where your head points.....the light points. Even got those that clipto the ball cap brim.
Keep the Mag Light though........
As we used to say in the Navy.....Always be prepared to "Repel boarders" if necessary. -
A 4 D Mag is all most as good as a baseball bat. Never leave home with out it.
macjones5254 Thanks this. -
oh, my bad.. i was looking at the mag light from a work point of view, but in a security/self defense point of view, then ya.. keep it..
macjones5254 Thanks this. -
