The recirculation door in my HVAC is stripped where the actuator turns it. This is causing the system to be erratic because apparently it's some kind of limp mode when there is a fault. ESA shows main Recirc actuator is bad. I took it out and ran the actuator test and it turns just fine. Stuck my phone in where the actuator turns the door and it's stripped to nothing. I went to KW to figure out what parts were needed and it's sold as an assembly. KW told me I have to take out the whole dashboard and HVAC and replace the recirculation housing right behind the blower motor. I have purchased the assembly already. I've been looking for a little while and I cannot find any information on removing the HVAC. I was hoping someone on here had some information on the procedure to remove the dash and HVAC or if the the assembly can be replaced without removing the whole HVAC. Thanks.

Here's the stripped recirc door cogs:

Here's the new assembly that has to be swapped in:

And here's what the cogs are supposed to look like:

Yep, gotta buy inlet assy and whole dash comes out. It is a long process and you need a second hand to do it. Attached instructions to removing complete HVAC module. Make sure you update your HVAC software. Changes were made to prevent motor from breaking the doors.

Also, do you know if I could just jb weld the actuator cogs to the door cogs? I was trying to see how it operators and it appears to just a simple rotating connection. If I were to jb weld them together and then calibrate the actuator with ESA...i don't see why that wouldn't work. Unless I'm missing something with how the actuator works.

I just tricked the CECU to think it's working again. I hooked up the old actuator to the new assembly and calibrated. It passed. Cleared the DTCs, and now it's out of limp mode no DTCs. As long as I don't activate that actuator, hopefully that DTC doesn't come back
And as I typed this the DTC came back...
Screw it I'm gonna glue it. I need a new assembly either way and have already bought it. Can't brake something that's already broke.

Pretty sure they self calibrate everytime you key on ignition. If you JB welded it and actuator went bad might make it tough to replace.

Yeah it does calibrate every time. Guess I gotta cough up the money if it doesn't work.
