A little about me. I am retired USAF reserve, and am thinking of retiring early from the USPS. I got my class A CDL's over 20 years ago when I got off active duty. I kept my CDL's all these year. I tried driving local and could not make any money and went to work for the USPS. There is rumors of early retirements being offered and I am weighing all my options. I am getting the urge to travel and feel OTR may help that itch. I know I would have to be retrained again. I have been reading these forums and watching videos on different training companies. I like what I read about Prime, Wilson Logistics, and Millis Transfer. Any insight on these companies or any others is greatly appreciated. I live in North Carolina. Thanks, JC

Abilene Motor Express probably hire you and put you with a trainer quickly. You don't need a full cdl school.
Abilene is headquartered in Richmond, VA and does hire drivers in your situation.
Have a chat with someone there.

Get all the endorsements, including hazmat, plus TWIC identification.
All this is money in the bank and makes you more hirable in the future.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
Thanks for the response. I am planning on getting all my endorsements. I will have to read up on the TWIC card. I don't know anything about that. I will probably get a passport also.

Google TWIC North Carolina and find out where the nearest TWIC office is. Simple process, fill out a form for background check and do fingerprints and a photo. One or two weeks later you'll get the card. -
Millis and Wilson are both good companies, but you can cut right to the chase with Abilene which is also a very good company.

Well, 1st, thanks for your service, and 2nd, Chinatown, being our resident optimist, is going to paint you a rosy picture based on what you ask, but I won't. OTR trucking is not the same as having an itch to travel. I'm not sure what you did for USPS , the money( and a life) is in a local job, OTR is riddled with challenges, and some OTR may pay better, but usually, with all the hassles of OTR, you'll be begging for your by the hour, local job again. Don't give that up, not yet anyway.
