Class A license but out of the business for 4 years

    I have a class A CDL license with all the endorsements including a passport, hazmat and TWIC card. I’ve been driving a tour bus for the last three years up until February when the coronavirus hit. That basically put us out of business. Looking to go back to driving with my class A license. I live in North Mississippi and I’m looking for a company that will not require me to sign a contract or charge me for a refresher course. I have no problem driving I just need the opportunity to prove myself. Can anyone suggest some companies to look at? I’m not interested in teaming or any company requiring a contract.

    I checked with them and they want a six month contract or $2000 if you don’t stay with them. I wouldn’t have a problem doing that but I’m not guaranteed they won’t let me go for some reason I can’t control. Just don’t like the idea of being locked into a contract that I can’t have some say-so in. I’ll check on Big M trucking and see what they have to offer.

    Abilene hired me after a 15 year gap in driving. No contract or refresher course needed. I was on trainer's trucks for a total of 5 weeks before I got my own. I wound up staying there 2.5 years.

    They have a lot of solo freight east of the Mississippi, a terminal in W.Memphis, AR and a major customer based in Byhalia so shouldn't be a problem getting you home.

    They don't touch hazmat, but do go to Canada often so having a passport will make you more hireable. Very lengthy thread in the favourite trucking company sub forum if you want to do more research and ask questions. Decent folk in there that I know in person.

    How was their equipment? Did they maintain it well? Anything you didn’t like about them in particular?
