Needing some info on this. I’ve dug and can’t find all straight answers. Have an 06 MXS needs overhauled and wanting to convert to a 6NZ. Price isn’t a problem so please don’t bring that up. What all will work and won’t work? I know cam sensor, head, cam, etc. will the 6NZ packs work on the acert crank? Also going to run a 130-9710 marine cam and 10r0958 injectors. Needing a cat number for a turbo that would work with this set up. All the parts will come from cat so no aftermarket stage 1 etc.

Going to run the JRE packs 16:1 10R7172 unless anyone has a different suggestion. 17:1 still sounds a little high. As a 6NZ runs 16:1 as well but has different rods. Does the head have to be changed for sure to a 6NZ or run the existing MXS style with the cutouts and degreed valves?

Pretty sure you can get 16:1 cat packs for an acert. Have to change cam gear and drill for cam gear sensor then you can run a 6nz or any like ecm. All the heads are the same im pretty sure. Facebook cat engine masters 3 has some really knowledgeable people

    spsauerland Thanks this.

If money is no object, just buy a 6NZ crate motor from Cat.

Why don't you buy a 6nz from a junk yard, then you can build it just the way you like?

Mxs is a better platform than a 6nz and its not a hard conversion. Lots of people do it.

I'd use IPD packs. They make a 16:1 for acerts but I'm pretty sure cat has industrial 16:1 packs for acerts too

    Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this.

    Why?

Why not just de-Acert the MXS? It'd blow the doors off a 6NZ.

Will be running the 16:1 cat packs, looking at around 650-700 horsepower or so nothing extreme. Not buying a 6NZ because my rotating assembly is good and can convert the acert. Going to change the front cover back plate so it’s done right. Anyone know of a good turbo to run with the 58’s and marine cam? Twins are not an option and is the whole reason for the conversion as well as the iva’s.
