I'm not familiar with those. Are they at the end of travel? I always put a piece of dunnage under anything hydraulic and float it down on it before chaining. If they're at the end of travel though, there's no way it's going to loosen.

Never had a metal band break, yet, but I have had them loosen. More so the product shifted and they became loose, rather than the band itself slip and loosen. Would be pretty hard to gut strap what he has without at least some 40' straps, and even then, there's no way to possibly add insurance on every metal band on there. I'd be cautious with the load, but it would probably look pretty similar on my trailer.

Multiple occasions and once with pipes like that exactly.

Belly strap saved me, my load was two tiers high. Band on the bottom broke. Belly strap held the mess in place. i added more after that, and when I got to the place, had to have the forklift up against it before i pulled the straps.

While it doesn't happen often, bundled pipe like that is one where it can bite you big.

It was before i started cloud saving photos, but ill see if i can dig it up.

I only ask because ive done it the exact same way as @PoleCrusher .. I could see how a choke strap even just around the middle parts would be wise

Its one of those things where 9 out of 10 times you can do it no problem. But yeah, those bands break. Or loosen. I think most ive seen em break is where that little clamp, crimp thingy that holds the band tight.

booley, cke, Nostalgic and 4 others Thank this.

I like your sentiment but, not much more to really do with it than what he has? Maybe one more over the bottom layer? Even belly wrapping each layer (if you could) don’t really do anything more if a band breaks. The pipe will just move and loosen up to the center of the load just as easy? Either way all the straps will be loose and you’ll have a mess on your hands.
That load is like trying to strap down a box of straws. Just no way to get the center one tight.

booley, Ruthless, D.Tibbitt and 9 others Thank this.
