It's just another tracking app for your phone the same as macro point, four kites, etc. ELD access is not required. Seems like all the "suspicion" and hatred for it comes from people on social media paid to promote other competing apps.

The only access to my Keep Truckin ELD I think about granting is to the Wrex Bank (it finances Fleet One networks including NSTAC and Fleet One Edge) so that I can integrate my fuel purchases with ELD IFTA reporting automatically. It would save me a little bit of time with manual entry of fuel transactions.
I think that fleet owners would want that feature even more than I would.
Once in a while I may purchase fuel using a different method but it is rare.
I actually don't really mind ELD sharing but only for the duration of the trip so it ends when the trip ends and I can turn it off then.
I never agree with constant location trucking and supplying info to their data mines.
I just hate to see someone profit from the ELD mandate at my expense.
I am already accustomed to ELD but it does not mean that I approve of it. Quite the opposite, I do resent it because the HOS rules are badly defined and a poor road safety guarantee. I may even say they don't guarantee a squat compared to paper logs.
I have some wild ideas about purchasing a glider kit such as Harrisons Cascadias with the year 1999 D60 series to be able to go back to normal riding among other things but on the other hand don't want to become a subject to a DOT harrassment because there is no doubt in my mind that I could make the paper logs work for me better than ELD. Both safety and business profit wise.D.Tibbitt and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -

I know you're not talking about running 6,000 miles solo. That's stupid and anyone doing that deserves ELD. What I always hated about ELD was that sometimes the schedule and plan was so tight that I would drive by my favorite place to get a burger or whatever but I had to drive on because there was no time. Even when there was some wiggle room with the schedule I would usually pass up on it because the unknown might happen and that 20 minute stop end up still screwing up the plan. That's total bull**** imo.

Actually, when I thought about it, 6000 miles in 7 days...that's 857 miles per day. It is very dependent on what region you run but that could be done relatively easy going to West Coast and staying relatively healthy... 6 - 8 hours of continuous sleep and 1 - 2 hours of relaxation.
So the loop Chicago - Ca - Chicago was on average 4200 - 4500 miles .... often done in 6- 7 days.
Iowa DOT cop once I asked me... I don't get it...how come all of you Chicago trucks always leave after 8 days of vacation?
It was before the 2004 HOS reform when there was no 34 hour reset.
I don't approve of running 1000 miles days on end. It will wear you down, although it is still very individual. With a regular daily routine discipline and running schedule you can go long distance and find enough rest time to recover. Certainly, age and individual shape plays is a factor too.
Anyway, I swear I am more tired by "resting" for more than 6-8 hours at the truck stops than running 800 miles a day.
Also running against that 14 hour clock cannot be safe either. With paper logs it was not a problem because it was simply ignored. Now it creates additional stress and prompts to running faster and with less relaxation breaks.Last edited: Sep 2, 2020

Going back to paper logs wouldn't be as much about money as about feeling good about trucking.

The other day my insurance agent told me that I could get a discount for allowing them access to my ELD. I said nope. The way it's going they will eventually price us out of not being able to allow them access. Next discount and then eventually mandatory will be driver facing cameras for everybody, not just the megas.
It's a shame this free country is no longer free. This isn't a political statement, it's a statement about Capitalism. Greedy companies are looking for ways to steal your freedom and constantly have you dialed in to a screen or mining your info for a 'supposed' discount on their services. Don't be fooled!
I will always pay more to retain my freedom. I pay for a lot of apps so I don't have to look at ads all the time. Also, I'll drive out of my way to avoid a gas station that has those stupid TV screens at the pumps. I'll pay more for insurance too to keep the big companies and guvment out of my life.D.Tibbitt, Midwest Trucker and TallJoe Thank this. -
