I couldn't understand why May wanted me to log Sleeper Berth every time I hit a dock. After the first couple of shippers that took 8+ hours I understood.
My DM would get so pissed when I drove 20 miles to the nearest truckstop/rest area and shut down for a 10 hour break. I tried to tell them I’d work between 0200-1900 but I wasn’t driving through the night.

I get not wanting to drive during certain hours, but log it off duty so you have the hours to get someplace decent to sleep.

If you're sitting in the truck watching the dock workers wander around like homeless people put it off duty or sleeper berth. Unless you're helping to load/unload put it off duty, you're just burning up your hours for no reason.

How does that matter if my 14 hour still runs down when I'm off duty?

    (1) It doesn't waste time off your 70.
    (2) If you're in the sleeper 8 hours, hopefully sleeping, it will have paused your clock with the time you had prior to going into the sleeper.
    (3) If you're there 10+ hours you have your hours back.

In 5 days when you are out of your 70, you won't be and can pick up another run or 3 for that week.

8 hours off duty stops the clock, or if you're having a real crap day and end up there for 10 you have a whole new 14 to play with. Yes I've been stuck places for that long that actually happens.

Actually you should be in sleeper berth. You need 8 hrs in the sleeper to create more drive time.
Actually you should be in sleeper berth. You need 8 hrs in the sleeper to create more drive time. The split sleeper is designed for situations like this. You can tell them that you will only work between 0200 and 1900. They don't care. It will fall on deaf ears. You will have to be flexible and understand that you will have to work less than favorable hours sometimes. If you can edit it your logs and move it to sleeper, once your 8 hrs are up, you can get back a good dose of drive time. How much drive time did you use?

Ok, unfortunately nothing you can do. Hopefully you are getting paid detention. If you don't have forced dispatch, Google the shipping and receiving location and try to avoid the places that hold up drivers
