Sure, and then give them a 17 hour day.

If the FMCSA on the side of safety or on the side of the mega?

I really don't see a difference. You can do this job or not. Look at some of the stupid crap supposedly mature drivers pull on a daily basis. Let the young folks who want to drive have a shot. They won't be any worse than the scum bag straddling two lanes at 45mph in the mixmaster in Des Moines this morning I came across.

Whats the difference of 3 years ? U understand there is guys in the military killing people at 18? Granted trucking companies dont train anywhere close to military standards.... The average age of a trucker is what 50? 60?.... We need young people in the game to replace the older folk before long..... Besides , its gonna be very hard to lure an18 year old kid out of highschool to go drive a truck across country for a living... most of the young people thats gonna benefit is gonna be the kids on a farm or somebody who grew up around trucks or back in the sticks, looking for a good career to get going in life.... I think its a great idea.

For every 18 year old that can cut it a thousand others who can't will be running over and tearing up all sorts of stuff. Accident rates will go up. Insurance companies have study after study proving that they are higher risk for accidents in cars. Simply because they do not yet have the experience behind the wheel. What do you think they would do with an 80,000 lb. truck? A few more years to mature and gain experience is needed. But that's just my opinion.

We can agree to disagree... i see alot of older folk doing really stupid things with trucks as well. And just about everybody that drives a 4 is mentally challenged no matter the age

Can't you currently drive intrastate at 18? If that is still true. Then a driver of 18 in CA can drive just as much as a 21 driving otr.

No. Why is being 21 some fantastic magical number? Where does that come from? Denying someone a chance at a living because grandpa says it was always done that way is ########. Test them, let them earn a living.

Well you can get an intrastate CDL at 18. At 21 your automatically allowed to cross state lines with it. I don't see what the big whoop at crossing state lines at 18 are.

Take a look around at the absolutely clueless people that currently have a CDL and the #### they tear up. 3 years ain't really gonna make a difference.

Nothing to worry about. The majority of 18 year olds have an attention span of a 30 second long post on facebook. I don’t think they would stick with it long enough for the first paycheck when they realize it is nothing like the truck driving simulator game and they have to use real life survival skills that arn’t taught anymore. Only a small amount of good ones will proove their worth and be a good contribution to the industry.

So basically you just validated my post. 18/21 can already drive the same miles. Ty
