I run a quick query on my database for the last 30 days.
loaded miles: 9 771 - invoiced for $27 794.56: 2.84
empty miles : 2 209: 18%
Fuel and tolls: $5000.10
trailer payment: $580
insurance: $600
maintenance: $424
payroll: $2500
hotel room for one night: $69

Definitely, one of the best periods I've recorded in the last 4 years since I've been on my own. It resembles the Fall of 2017. The last 3 months have surely made up for the miserable months of April and May and if the current trend can be sustained, the year of 2020 may still turn out very good.
However, this will attract more newcomers or existing fleets will add more trucks,, which will dilute load to truck ratio eventually and also finały, unrelated to the capacity increase, the freight volume will subside too. I hope that we should be relatively content until the end of year. Oh well...most of us here in this thread have seen it all already.

Therefore, all those casual onlookers of this thread trying to get an idea of what owner operators make, contemplating pulling a trigger...Hold your horses, yet. We have to remember that this is an accelerated pendulum upswing which just as well may start going down in a rapid manner and sooner than expected. After all, it is not like we are experiencing an economy expansion backed up by GDP growth of 5+% but rather erratic and unpredictable outcome of politics (notably tariff war with China and new tax laws) of the last 2-3 years and the country shut down back in Spring.

Since we had the wine country fires here in NorCal a couple years ago, and seeing what fires do to trailer parks first hand, you couldn't pay me enough to live anywhere near one of those places.

 

Honestly these days a mobile home is just as good as a regular one. It's the old single wide "trailers" that are bad. But they do have the same problem any wood construction has with fire.

 

For breakfast, I ate some real home fermented sour kraut - I put it on a pan and heat it up on my electric burner and a sausage on the stick I picked up at Sapp Bros truck stop. You can call it a barbarian breakfast.
I thought about posting a picture of it but....decided not to. It did not look too photogenic. LOL
