    They are. The problem comes when somebody gets the clutch hot enough to melt the surrounding plastic and the saw body itself deforms. The smaller homeowner class saws, and that includes Stihl, aren't meant to take that kind of abuse.
    I've seen guys melt saws trying to cut with a dull chain and leaning on it instead of sharpening. I've also seen guys melt a saw by revving the engine with the chain brake engaged.

    In my other post I think I put the link too far down the page. Arboristsite is a good place for information. If it's about saws or cutting, you'll find it there. My brother used to be a moderator on that site and he's my go-to guy about saws.

    When I was teaching the wife on the do's and don'ts of being a sawyer...had a hellof a timegetting her to throttle up....poor saw would be groaning almost crying! Didn't take her long to be calling the shots....see the finger!
