I had a discussion with a friend and couldn't find an answer.

If you were a company driver and due to the events of this spring you were put on a temporary furlough for three months would that show up on a DAC report?

Let's say you wanted to move to another job and started driving after the furlough ended, would this three months still count as experience for companies hiring drivers?

On a traditional resume you are still employed and wouldn't be have a gap but we couldn't decide how it works with driving experience.

My friend is close to 2 years of class A but doesn't know if he needs to keep driving for 3 months or not to qualify with carriers that require 2 years

That wont be reported on Dac. He's close enough now on his two years he could go where he wants.

I wouldn't even mention the furlough. You're also not driving when on vacation, but still employed by the company.

The bigger concern was to make sure that what he claimed was what the verification would show.

You act as if DAC is something evil and bad! It's really not! A furlough is just that! A furlough. Of course, the time has to be accounted for and in your case, your time is accounted for. If this is reported to DAC just let it be, it's not a good or bad thing. It is just simply an accounting of three months.

I would be much more concerned that the data in the hireright database is correct.

That last question about experience is a big-time NOPE! Time furloughed is not going to be counted as experience. That 3 months are accounted for as time furloughed. Nothing more!

DAC reports are a hireright product

Avoiding having them returns a discrepancy on a background check is the concern.

Unfortunately this requires a potential employee to 'lie' based on what Hireright will return even if it is not equal to the truth.

The 10 year employment verification is a FMCSA requirement and I was not making any complaints about that fact.

I would somewhat agree. When a company put a negative on mine it was easy to remove. Unfortunately they allow some companies to put negative on every former driver. It would be easy for them to monitor that, but money talks.

When it comes to DAC/Hireright I can only go by what I have witnessed and seen. Yes, I have seen bad stuff on the report that echoed what the carrier had in their records. Some of it was hyperbole or out and out lies. I simply have not seen it as a widespread problem. The largest problem I have seen on the DAC report was the entry reflecting the actual time worked. For some reason, some carriers do this to low time drivers. I had a guy call me last year about a carrier that would only show his service was 4 months when he showed me almost 10 months of pay records. This stuff can be fixed, but it is a major PITA.

concerning the 'furlough of the OP, he needs to satisfy the motor carrier of the time being in limbo. Some would take a shot at 1.75 yrs. of experience with an explanation
